Question about 1995 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

Faulty computer I recently had major work done on my transmission, but after 6 months it went back to being bad again. Whats funny is that when the O/D light is flashing, it seems to run O.K. , when its off, the taking off is very rough and its slips from 1st to 2nd. After that it drives fine. I also have a multitude of simple problems e.g. air ride system cuts in and out, security system is intermittent, and now my "check engine " light has come on. Is it possible for the computer on board to be causing this and if so, is it possible to R&R it without any special tests. Any help is appreciated.

This may not help but its wort a try, disconnect the battery for at least five minutes. This will cause the computer to re-boot and may cure at least some of your problems.

Intermitente starting problems & transmission seemed to go out the other day while driving it

sounds more like an engine issue off the top of my head. The transmission runs off the vacuum from the engine. If the engine timing chain is stretched it will run then not run, have problems idling and shifting and won't charge the battery properly. anyone who has done one before could probably tell you just by the sound of the engine running.

I recently had a transmission flush on my 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, and now it has shifted into gear really hard on 3 seperate occasions. Is there a special fluid that was suppose to be used like with a...

No but I had the same thing done and about 3 months that pressure control valve went out in my transmission it's a faulty part from GM a lot of people have had it happen and are upset. They even made a shift kit to be installed to prevent it from happening again. It cost me 1,100 to get it fixed about 300 in parts, and the rest in labor. Good luck hope you don't have the same problem.

Even though you replaced the sensor, and the light went out, the computer still retains the original codes until the codes are cleared using a scan tool. It's possible the computer has put the engine in a reduced power mode because the trouble codes haven't been cleared.

Car started started loosing power and making funny noises 1 month ago, had someone check it out and it was three quarts low on oil! Had oil change done at time, now a month later same thing happened...

excess use of oil is caused by only one thing a badly worn engine or one thats been hammered by a previous owner like a rental car or sales rep ,worn rings and valve guides are the main reasons for oil use ,ps whats a quart ?? whats that in proper measurements like how many litres and do not forget the trunk is called a boot .

Automatic Honda civic wont reverse

take it back. They missed something. You should have a warranty on the work. Of course that does have limits which include both mileage driven and months since the vehicle was released to you. I am guessing you did not do the work since your saying you had it done. There really isn't much you can do other than have it taken apart and checked. So long as your TCM (transmission control module is not bad= computer for transmission)

Transmission problem 2004 Chrysler Concorde 6

Funny as it may sound, the first thing I would check is the charging system. Your battery and charging system may seem to be working just fine, but it is possible that a diode or two may be bad, letting just enough current to go back into the computer causing it to malfunction. The diodes in an alternator act as one way doors. They let current go out and keep current from leaking back into the PCM (computer). So your system could appear to be working perfectly charging the battery and providing current for all the car's electrical systems, but it could also be allowing just enough current to get back into the car's computer to cause a problem. Some Chrysler 3.3L engines have a problem with the idle and transmission surging when in drive at idle, and though the car is not moving, the speedometer reads 15-20 mph! The check engine light will come on and the PCM will give transmission trouble codes. The actual problem is caused by a faulty alternator, so before you go having the transmission diagnosed, make sure that your alternator is working 100%. This MAY involve removing it for testing, but I can tell you that it's a whole lot easier than removing the transmission, or any of it's parts! Have the alternators diodes tested and hope for the best!

2001 impala shifting issue

I have a 2001 base impala and 6 months ago I experienced the same problem. I was driving on the street and all of a sudden my car acted as if it was in neutral. I pulled over and neither of the shifts engaged. The dealership said that my torque converter went bad. Somehow the bad torque converter caused shavings to get into my transmission. They gave me a new torque converter and flushed my transmission. My transmission was almost 2 years old; therefore, it was under warranty.

Wont shift out of lower gear

First thing I need to ask is when the filter & Fluid was last changed. If recently, Did they replace old fluid with ATF4 from Mopar/chrysler? Chrysler transmissions are very temperamental, especially with any other transmission fluid running in them, even though many mechanics, transmission places etc, may argue with me, it is a known fact. First, disconnect your + battery connection for a couple of minutes, then reconnect, and try that to see if it helps. If not, and fluid & filter haven't been changed in a while, I'd spend the money & have it done, but using only Mopar ATF4 from a Chrysler dealer.
