Hi...

The first step you need to do on your Honda,
Is check if the Cluster show the Vehicle Speed.
If not You need to fix the Cause of not speed.
Because the Overdrive is strictly comanded at certain speed.

But if the Speed signal is good , you will need to test the Overdrive selenoid...

Ok. Letme know if you need instructions to test, or any info you need.
For try to solve your problem..

Thank you for use fixya...

How does an automatic transmission overdrive solenoid and part throttle unlock work

When you depress the throttle, the throttle sensor electronically tells the computer to take the transmission out of overdrive and when the throttle is released overdrive comes back on. When you depress the brake pedal, it also will go out of overdrive by a switch connected to the brake pedal with the brake light switch. Let off the brake pedal and goes back into overdrive once at speed.

What is the o/d button on top of automatic gear stick for please

Over Drive..... Generally speaking, overdrive (OD) is the highest gear in the transmission. Overdrive allows the engine to operate at a lower rpm for a given road speed. This allows the vehicle to achieve better fuel efficiency, and often quieter operation on the highway. When it is switched on, an automatic transmission can shift into overdrive mode after a certain speed is reached (usually 70+ km/h [43+ mph] depending on the load). When it is off, the automatic transmission shifting is limited to the lower gears. For an automatic transmission, it is almost always best to select overdrive and allow the transmission to control engagement of the overdrive. (It may be necessary to switch it off if the vehicle is being operated in a mountainous area or when towing a trailer.) With a manual transmission, overdrive should usually be selected when the average speed is above 70 km/h (approx. 43 mph).

Transmission flares / slips on initial take off in drive / overdrive. 3 speed + overdrive automatic transmission in 2003 Kia Spectra with 1.8 liter engine.

I had the same issue and bought some sea foam transmission fluid product and it seems to have worked. Just be careful not to overfill it.

Where is the transmission dipstick on a 1990 honda prelude si

I only know about the dipstick for the automatic transmission.
It is located to the passenger side of center and is burried dwon very deep - you almost have to reach full-arms-length down, between hoses and air duct to reach it. It has a wire loop handle usually covered in orange/yellow rubber. All total it is about 6 inches long when removed. It is so hard to find that I thought mine was missing and bought another one before I found it.

Mech or Elec overdrive

According to Haynes Auto Repair Manual, section on automatic transmissions, the 1994 Towncar has the AODE transmission
Baumann Electronic Controls website
URL: http://www.becontrols.com/tech/ch1alphabet.htm
has following:
The Automatic Overdrive (AOD) transmission was introduced in 1980 as Ford's first four-speed automatic overdrive transmission.
The AOD-E transmission is essentially a beefed-up electronically-controlled version of the AOD.
If this doesn't answer your question, you might troll around the website.
