1991 Cressida How do i know if my alternator is bad?

if the alternator is not charging , there will be a red battery light on the dash
reasons for engine stopping are
broken timing belt/chain, cam/crank position sensor failure
immobilizer activation
ignition control module failure
run the fault codes as some engine lights only light up for urgent problems that require you to stop the engine

94 cressida alt wiring/light

does the light come on when the key is turned to the RUN position ???
yes, good
no, not good
light is powered from the key, to the bulb then it grounds through the alternator when the alternator excites... that's what the light it, it's the exciting circuit, or it's how the alternator turns on. light not working, alternator not turning on...
have you tested and made sure you have power on the main alternator wire from the battery ???
do you own a test light and/or DVOM ???

Cant get the alternator fuse out

The alternator fuse is screwed on from the bottom up inside the fuse box. To remove the alternator fuse, you have to unscrew the whole fuse box from the car and on the bottom of the box are more screws to open the box. Once its open you will see one or two little screws holding the alternator fuse in place, easy. Unless you buy the manual for the car, you'll have to break one to pieces trying to get it out, to figure out how to do it, like i did.

I replaced master cylinder bleed brakes back brakes working but no brakes front . No brake fluid on bleeders in front . What next to do . Toyota cressida 1985 2.8i automatic

Bleed front more. If needed, remove line from each front caliper to ensure fluid is flowing. If no fluid movement you may have a bad master cyl.

Battery light is on

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If the battery light is on, I strongly suggest that you have the battery charged. It can be an indication of a weak battery or a faulty alternator. If the battery light still on after charging then the problem will surely be on the alternator itself. If that's the case the alternator should be replaced to resolve the problem.

If the battery won't hold charge even on a new alternator then the problem will be on the battery itself. It surely is in the end of it's service life and replacement will be necessary.

You may try to reset it to by removing the positive battery connector, letting it sit for at least 5mins. then reconnect it again. This will reset the system and can get the battery light off.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Instructions for changing alternator on 1986 Toyota Cressida. Dash lights indicating bad battery came on.new battery starts right up... Problem with alternator????

The light comes on because it is not receiving the proper signal from the electrical circuit. Before you replace any parts take a 1/2 hour and some emery cloth and make sure that all the connections are tight and making good contact. Do the battery cables at the battery and the wires that attach to the alternator, including the plug-ins. Also clean up the ground wire that runs from the battery to the body. If the light is still on then get both the alternator and the battery tested. The alternator should read above 12.5 volts, preferably 13.5 to 14. It might be a new battery but get it "load tested". This is a measure of your battery's ability to retain voltage. A reading in the area of 11 volts after the test is an indication the battery is dying or not big enough to do the job. 500 CCA is a good size for a battery, less is working it harder and wearingit out faster. Hope this helps.
