If there is no oil in water or water in oil, try having your radiator and cooling professionally cleaned at a radiator shop and tell them to install a new TOYOTA thermostat. Sometimes aftermarket thermostats do not work properly in Japanese cars.

Worst case, if the oil has a milky substance in it or the water has an oily scum on top of the coolant, you probably have a blown head gasket which frequently occurs when an engine overheats. A good radiator shop should be able to test it for both. That could be a major expense. Trade it quick or repair it and plan on keeping it for a long time.

The coolant should be at least a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water. 100% water will not work and 100% coolant will not work. Most auto parts stores stock the pre-mixed 50/50. Even though some coolants are advertised as PERMANENT, I've never trusted them. Most mechanics will recomend a change ever 3-5 years depending on how the vehicle is driven. Short trips are sometimes more of a problem than longer trips because the vehicle does not stay at operating temperture long enough to benefit from the HOT circulation of coolant.

If you do it yourself, be careful to get all of the air out of the motor block. Some are more difficult than others to do. The old way was to fill it up leave teh radiator cap off until you see evidence of circulation and you know the thermostat has opened. You may have some of it overflow but that could be caused by an expanding air bubble and not too much coolant. Again watch for the circulation. Watch any leaking leaking/excess anti-freeze, it has a sweet taste to animals and will destroy their kidneys.

The 1.8 L (1,781 cc) 7K was first introduced in 1983. Cylinder bore was 80.5 mm (3.17 in) and stroke was 87.5 mm (3.44 in). Output was 80 hp (60 kW) at 4600 RPM and 103 lb·ft (139 N·m) at 2800 Was available with a 5 speed manual & 4 speed automatic transmission. Available in both fuel injected and carburetted configurations, the 7K produces much more power and torque compared to the other K engines however it is a lot less 'rev happy' due to having such a large stroke.
7K is available in KR42 Townace SBV vans (1997-2007) using a large G52 5 speed gearbox (Same bellhousing to box pattern as W55), or automatic.

There are many reasons for the engine overheating. It does not mean that it will lead to expensive repair. Also it does not mean that you take it lightly. You must get your car immediately be examined by expert from any good workshop.

Stick with the OEM headgasket from the toyota parts department, you are correct in assuming that there is another problem that caused the overheating in the first place. Overheating is usually caused by an external coolant leak or a blockage in the cooling system, possibly a partially restricted radiator, stuck thermostat.

Vehicle is overheating, leaking anti freeze heat not working
