Where is the engine number on the V8 powertech block

is this a 2002 GC? called the WJ jeep (VIN on body tells this)
there CG made in other countries too.
the JG is Export models produced at the plant in Graz, Austria. (for Europe +) and WH, ZG, WG. You can wiki them.... and are made in China too.

so first find out (VIN) what car you have, then find out how they made your engine. (this is a usa forum , and our jeeps are all 100% made here to our laws.)

gov. can be bit wild here.
some engine have no serial here.
Jeep exports cars, and are export certified to comply to AUS.
rules.
I will not guess what V8 that is. (no size stated, ouch)
4.7 L V8 (Powertech) it is. good.
bingo, or WJ made in USA For USA market , the book FSM
shows these facts. (i seached serial on whole book)

----------------------------<data quote>---------------------------
chapter 9,"ENGINE"
The 4.7 liter (287 CID) eight-cylinder engine is an
90° single overhead camshaft engine. snip ~~~
The engine serial
number is located at the right front side of the
engine block (Fig. 1)

made in USA WJ, (some engine plants may not do that)

How often to replace a timing chain on 5.2 V8 engine,95 Jeep Grand Cherokee

It should not be necessary to replace a timing chain unless it becomes noisy. As standard practice, timing chains are changed at engine overhaul, at which time adjusters and guides are normally changed too.

The jeep grand cherolee lared 4WD V8 won't go into 4th gear

Possible you have a simple problem such as a bad solenoid and or maybe some kind of engine coolant temp sensor problem. The v-8 engine in this year did not have true computer controls, it did have a solenoid for lock-up torque converter and a solenoid for overdrive. It was basically just and old tech hydraulic transmission with two solenoids. Most likely unless the transmission has been rebuilt properly before you are at the beginning of the end.No overdrive in this year model usually means the clutch in the torque converter has shredded and stopped up the cooler and melted the overdrive unit.I would have someone to pull diagnostic codes and see if there is anything stored. You may want to remove the transmission pan and inspect for debris in filter.Good luck!

How to replace lifters on a 360 V8 engine?

I find it hard to believe that it runs fine but, to replace either, you need to remove the intake manifold. Likely you will find both items in the lifter galley. Before dropping a lifter in there, make sure the cam lobe is still good....If the old lifter is severely worn on the cam end, likely it's not. After replacing the parts, but before replacing the valve cover and manifold, turn the engine by hand and make sure that the valve opens and rocker travel is the same as all others.
The r&r is covered in haynes and chilton manuals. One tip is to always use washers on any bolt that attaches the manifold to the heads to spread the torque load and yes, always torque any aluminum manifold to prevent warpage..
If either part has fallen into the oil pan (unlikely) it actually can stay there forever without harming anything.

I need to know the torque settings on the head for a 94 jeep grand cherokee laredo

Assuming the motor is an inline six
1.Middle bolt is number 1.Clockwise torque to 22 f/lb
2.Same pattern to 45 f/lb
3. same pattern to 100 f/lb
Be sure to use loctite 592 to the threads and some head gasket sealer to both sides of the head gasket.
Hope this helps

4 wheel drive not working

sounds to me like the transfer case clutches are worn out. also the fluid could be low or dirty. try draining and refilling the transfercase with clean fluid. if it is still not working after driving it around for a few miles then you may need to replace or overhaul your transfercase
