YOU ARE NOT LISTENING TO ME!!!!!

I LEARN VISUALLY AND HANDS ON. I WOULDN'T HAVE BOTHERED YOU IF THIS INFO HAD BEEN IN THE CHILTON MANUAL I BOUGHT!!!

SOME OF US LEARN EITHER VISUALLLY, HANDS ON, OR BY LISTENING, OR A COMBINATION OF THESE LEARNING STYLES.

THE MANUAL LISTS FOUR DIFFERENT KINDS OF FOCUS ENGINES-THERE ARE NO BREAK DOWN ILLUSTRATIONS OR PHOTOS THAT CLEARLY SHOW HOW TO PERFORM THE THERMOSTAT REPLACEMENT. IF THE MANUAL HAD, WE WOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS DUEL.

MY QUESTION WAS VERY SPECIFIC. I TOLD YOU WHAT I NEEDED-YOUR REPLIES ARE BORDERING ON SARCASM AND SEEM PATRONIZING.

IF YOU CAN'T GIVE ME WHAT I ASKED FOR, THEN CREDIT ME A REFUND. I THINK YOU GAVE ME A GENERIC ANSWER FOR A GENERIC PROBLEM. THAT IS NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR.

    SINCERELY,

    W MICHAEL STANTON, PALMER, ALASKA

Follow the upper radiator hose to where it attaches to a housing (2bolts hold the housing in place) remove the hose clamp here and then remove the housing bolts, inside the housing is your thermostat. Clean off the surface of the housing, and where it attaches to the engine. Install the thermostat, and a new gasket (or O -ring ), carefully replace the housing, being sure the thermostat doesn't slip out of position, tighten the housing bolts, reattach the radiator hose to the housing, add coolant to proper level, check for leaks, u r good to go! Make sure the thermostat is installed in the right direction, if put in backwards the car will overheat. countrycurt0

Your post did not state u required pictures, please check it to see. I took the time to explain the process, you should not need pictures if you follow my directions. A thanks for trying rating is a zero, and not appropriate for the answer I gave. If u really want pictures u should purchase a repair manual, I was trying to help you do the repair to save money and understand how it was done.

  • Curt Downs Oct 23, 2008

Whoa, calm down my friend, Sorry I don't have access to the pictures u want, but as I stated before, your original request did not request diagrams, and I'm curious as to the refund you are requesting. All help I provide (or try to provide) is free. I am not reimbursed in any way, just trying to help out. I certainly don't claim to know everything about cars, and I do know what it's like to be 'stuck' on a repair and more info or advice (or diagrams) would be very helpful, so if I can help u out , I will. I will do some more research to see if I can find more info for you, will post anything I can find tonight.

ok wmmichaelstan, 1st, let me explain the rating system. An 'inappropriate' rating would be if I told you how to remove your brakes, when u wanted info on the thermostat, or if foul language was used, etc, so inappropriate rating was inappropriate for my answer. I would have preferred u told me u had a manual and were looking for more info, etc. Giving out that rating won't result in help from people answering questions, because all we have for an indicator of our help to others is our rating record.
Here's a site that I believe will be helpful to you, and let me know how u make out w/ the repair:

You changed the rating from thanks for trying to inappropriate, I would appreciate it if you changed it to something more suitable to the information I provided and time spent searching for it. If u paid for the premium service at the fix-ya site, I am not paid for that (or any info I provide here). And yes, I would still like to know how u make out w/ the thermostat.

Thanks wmichaelstan, good luck with the Focus.

Valves in 2003 ford focus SE 2.3L are loose...how do I fix them?

I doubt if the valves are loose or need adjustment as the engine should have hudraulic tappets which adjust automatically when the engine is running. I suggest that your friend take off the rocker cover and see if anything is out of place. As the engine is 10 years old it is possible that the tappets may be badly worn and not working properly hence the noise

To change the water pump you need to remove the serpentine belt, remove the pulley from the water pump, rotate the water pump within the housing and replace it. Reinstall, check for leaks.

Ford Escort 1.6 ztech 16 valve

Hi,

Based on your description, the engine would have a defective injector (always open) on the no 1 cylinder.moz-screenshot-1.jpg It would look something like this image 1d0ec93.jpg. In some instances, it could be the electronic box/computer that controls the opening and closing of these injector valves that may be at fault. The normal procedure calls for replacement and it wold be to your advantage to replace all not only the defective one should that be determined to be at fault.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
