Od drive and transmission overheat warning light

Hi I have just bought a 2001 grand cherokee.

I notice that on occasions the od light on dash comes on and switches off the overdrive, even if i try to replace it by pressing the button on auto lever it stays on with higher revs. The transmission temp light also comes on.
Any idea why or what i should look for

I have a 4.0 Litre Jeep Grand Cherokee Automatic. On local runs she drives great. However, when we take her on long runs (over 50 miles) the OD (overdrive) light comes on, she down shifts a couple of...

Sounds like your transmission or lockup converter is slipping. The slipping causes heat and it is downshifting out of overdrive as a built-in protection strategy. Get the transmission looked at ASAP before you get stranded because it's stuck in a downward spiral right now. The problem could be caused by a stuck solenoid, which is a relatively cheap fix, but the more you drive it like this, the more you're working toward a full, expensive rebuild.

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee... Overheated and the 'trans overheat' light came on. When I popped the hood the coolant res was bubbling. I let it cool down and parked it overnight, when I started it, it was...

You can no longer use the vehicle, common sense

Sounds like either the thermostat stuck closed, the cooling
fans failed to come on, or you have a bad head gasket.

You do know that the engine is overheading and has to
be diagnosed and that issue repaired

That Trans Issues, you work on after the engine overheating.

Even if the trans is okey, you will need to change the
fluid,not flush it.

Overdrive cuts off buy itself while driving

when the transmission overheat light (this is for the fluid) comes on the transmission control module pulls the trans out of OD to try and cool it down, this is called failure mode strategy, it is built into the programming of the control module, the signal from the trans is most likely incorrect, but the module doesn't know that, replace the transmission fluid temperature sensor.
