My engine died about 10 Minutes after the system told me to see a service station right away. A new generator and batterie later, the radio still works but the CD player does not. Instead, the lights for each of the five CD buttons keep blinking.
The local dealership wants to sell me a new radio and CD.

Re: 2000 Chrysler 300M CD player on strike
You will need to have the player repaired, but a new one! I really doubt, call your local dealer and ask for the number of the local company that is authorized to repair Chrysler /Dodge sound systems, do not go through the dealer, they will 2X the repair bill that the shop charges them, also you can check on the internet for automotive radio repair, call a few to get and idea of the cost, if they have exchange units inquire about this as well, fore warned is fore armed

Have the purge system tested, and the regulator diaphragm looked at. also the lines, especially the quick disconnect lines up near the engine. You smell gas, but as the engine heats up, the gasoline evaporates and you don't see where it is coming from. This is dangerous in any case, not to mention smelly. The regulator is located in back of the engine (on top) near the throttle body. (just underneath it). Start the car and let it run for a couple of minutes. Stop the car, and using a flashlight and a good retractable mechanic's mirror, take a look for wetness. if the regulator (a small, flat inch and a half disk attached to the fuel line) is wet. have it replaced right away. The purge system canister can usually be tested by a good mechanic with the right equipment. You and I usually cannot do this ourselves.
Chrysler numbers like GM. #1 is front right as you look at it from the front the engine. Number 4 would be the middle left bank as you look from the front of the engine (called the right bank in the literature).
I have a 2004 Chrysler 300M that makes the ticking noise when first started . . . if you turn the heater control to completely off the noise stops . . .leave it off for about 3 to 5 minutes and then turn it on and it will be gone. . . my chrysler dealer repair service manager can't understand it and didn't believe me when I told him. They tried to tell me it was my motor mounts. My 18 year old daughter figured it out. go figure!!!
Had same problem wit my 4 disk. A CD was jammed. Remove and open the unit up and remove the CD. The mechinizem might be jammed also. Try this before replacing. Seems like a common issue with these units. The newer 300Ms came with 6 disk changers.. not sure if these will work with the existing radio.
