He car has been back to the dealer 4 times for the same problem. Firsttime they claimed that they replaced malfunction tank by-pass vsv and codes mentioned are P0440, P0441 and P0446 that were malfunction. the second time they connected the car to their computer and re-scan the vehicle and told us that everything is working fine and the enginelight is off, but after one day the light came back and the car wentback to the dealer for the third time and now they claim that theproblem is from charcoal canister and has to be changed.also after the second visit as soon as i got in my car i could smallgas and it hasn't gone away and the dealer says they did nothing wrongand all the problem is from the canister. we really don't know if we can trust what they say.

Re: Engine light keeps coming on
The P-0440, P-0441 and P-0446 indicates that you have a leak in the "fume" side of the system. Normally, seeing a 440-441-446 is a loose or defective fuel cap. One would NOT change the evap VSV for a 440-441-446 set of codes. At this point, I agree with you regarding the trust issue. Regarding the caisiter, I cannot speculate yes or no, without further info/codes/etc from your dealer, but, I have replaced several over the past few years; this "could" be true....

You must have a cheap dealer, who wants to keep you bussy till waranty is over, before he replaces the defective parts. Not sure how you can claim more, but don't accept coming back more than twice for the same error.
Malfunction indicator for engine and there is one for maintenance so one that looks like an engine in the RPM right at i think 6 or 7 is engine the other is for oil and service. If your car is full of oil running fine and recently serviced these lights come on from time to time so you take it to dealer if all is well follow my instructions below. 1) With engine turned off, press & hold the mileage reset stem on the speedometer
> 2) Start engine
> 3) Wait 10 - 20 secs until light goes off

Hi. If you find an answer to your problem with the trac off/engine light comming on way too often, please tell me so I can get my wifes 2001 es300 fixed. The dealer claims to have replaced the computer and numerous sensors on it's many trips back to the car lot. Once, it was kept for two months with the same problem comming back after 72 hours of regular use. I found, if you disconnect the battery for app. 20 seconds, then rehook it the lights on the dash go off for about 3 days. Help!!!
I have run into the same problem in my 07 Commander. It is the oxygen sensor. IT is described as the downstream (before the catalytic converter)sensor 2 on bank 2 which is the drivers side of the cylinders. This is what I have been told from a member on the forum that I am on. I am still waiting back to hear from the dealership to have them fix my problem. I too have been there 4 times too.
I would look for another mechanic that covers the warranty and have them put a OBD 2 monitor on it and see what is going on. To me from your explanation it sounds like the computer is malfunctioning and possibly needs to be replaced
You will need to get the code befoe anyone can begin to diagnose this, There are about 5 parts that can cause this problems. The gas cap is one of them. If anyone has been uner the hood just pryor to this happening its possible they left a vacuum hose off or maybe broke one.
If this car is really an 07 then this being an emission issue you are covered under warrenty. Take it to the dealer.
The mechanic should check the speedometer because of it is malfunctioning .And also the speedometer cable . If the speedometer is worn out or destroyed then replace it but if malfunctioning and can be repaired then repair it.The speedometer cable if it is disconnected then reconnect it but if cut or destroyed replace it.The service engine light will light on because of there is a problem in the service part of the engine.
Not true that GM dealer is the only one that can fix it . There are other independent repair shops that can, Transmission repair shops like AAMCO . You could too if you had access to a scan tool that can read DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes for the 4X4 system . There is a 4X4 control module that can store DTC'S when problems happen . When a warning like check 4 Wheel Drive light's up ,it's not meant for you to do anything except take it to the dealer ,well ,that's what the dealer would like .
Would need to know which 4X4 transfer case your's has ? Two speed manual , two speed selectable , two speed automatic ?
