Question about 1999 Cadillac DeVille
My 2000 cadillac deville overheats when I am driving around 75-80 miles an hour for in about 10 minutes, I turn on the heat and it will cool down, it is a NORTHSTAR 4.6 ENGINE, I put a new radiator in it because I broke the intake on it trying to tighten a hose.
You can rent a cooling system preasure tester at a parts store. These engines run so close to boiling that they must be able to hold presure or they overheat. Presurize the system and check for even the smallest leaks at all hose connections. I fought this problem for a long time before I figured it out.

The most common problem with overheating is the Fans on the rad don't come on when they should. The relays have to be replaced from time to time. Also if you put in a new rad, it's likely you have an air lock in the system. Other problems could be the thermostat or the water pump. Runn the engine until it comes up to temperature, shut the engine off and check the coolant level. Sometimes you have to do this several times to get all the air out of the system.
