Question about 2001 Ford F350 Super Duty SuperCab
2001 f350 with hydro boost has very little power steering at idle with brake on. is there an idle-up control circuit on this truck? there are no sensors in the fluid lines.
Power steering pump is weak. If a hydraulic gauge were placed on the pump, you would find it only able to produce about 200-400 psi at an idle. PS requires up to 1500psi. A new pump would produce 1500psi at an idle so replace the pump and you will be fine. By revving up the motor you are able to make the pump put out more psi. The pump is defective internally. Get a good one from the junkyard. Most PS pumps last the life of the vehicle.
