I have a 1999 Tahoe 8 cylinder I put in a new coil a whole new distributor distributor cap still it will not start

Pull the coil wire off the distributor cap. Put a ***** driver in it and place it close to any metal on the engine. crank over the engine. If you have spark, replace the pick up coil/ignition module in the distributor. If you have no spark. Check for power and ground at the coil plug with engine on. If it is there , replace the crank sensor.

When i bolt on the new distributor on a 1995 caprice lt1 4.3 is there away it has to be done like set to number like you do with the old style everybody keeps telling me no but it just doesnt make sense to...

You would put the distributor back in so that the rotor points to the same terminal on the cap the old distributor was pointing to.
If the shaft of the distributor has a notch, you can only put it in two ways with the rotor pointing to two terminals.
If you did not set the crankshaft to TDC before you removed the old dist, you have a 50 percent chance of being in the right position.
The notch on the bottom of the dist keeps you from picking any position other than the right one and the one 180 degrees off.

Spark plug wires firing order

Hi: Your Firing order for a V-8 GM Engine is 1--8--4--3--6--5--7--2--
Clockwise rotation.

< Back of Engine >

8 7

6 5

4 3

2 1

Front of Engine Cylindr Locations

This should get you Fixed-Up. To make sure your are starting your #1 Plug in right place on rotor = Pull Coil wire 1st so it won't start== then pull #1 Spark Plug,Then Put your index finger in the #1 Plug hole,Have Someone bump the engine around until Air is pushing your finger out==(STOP) now you are at TDC Top Dead Center ,Pull Distributor Cap off and What ever the Distributors Rotor is Pointing to Should be #1-Start #1 Wire There And Go Clockwise as I gave the Order Its Again 1--8--4--3--6--5--7--2

Hope this gets you started and set your timing and your onthe Way,PLEASE let me Know by Voting for the Quality of my Answer.

Thank You From: D_HUBBS

Check for bad sensor, crank or cam shaft. Also double check timing.
