Question about 1989 Chevrolet C1500
Can you give me some details.I assume that you are using the screwdriver on the starter motor, is that right? I also assume that when you say "its lock up and won't even turn" you mean the starter motor.
The reason it is probably stuck is because of the Bendix spring (is jammed) which connects the starter motor to the engine and then when the engine starts it automatically disconnects from the engine.
Replacing the starter motor is not too difficult.

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket or box wrench. Pull the airbag fuse from the driver's side fuse panel using the fuse removal tool found on the panel. Disable the theft-lock system on the radio.
Remove the instrument cluster by removing the bezel screws with a screwdriver and prying the bezel off with a prying tool or flathead screwdriver.
Remove the two screws holding the ignition switch in place with a screwdriver.
Push the ignition switch about one inch toward the front of the vehicle so that it will clear the mounting bracket. Lift the switch up and out from behind the instrument panel.
Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition switch. Put the key in the ignition and turn it the Run position.
Press the spring-loaded pin on the side of the ignition switch with a small screwdriver. Pull the lock cylinder out by the key.
Place the ignition key in the new ignition cylinder and push the cylinder into place in the ignition housing. Turn the key to the off position and remove it.
Connect the electrical wires to the back of the ignition switch.
Put the switch assembly in position in the cluster and install and tighten the two screws with a screwdriver.
Install the instrument cluster bezel and attach the two screws with a screwdriver.
Replace the airbag fuse in the driver's side fuse panel. Connect the negative battery cable with a wrench. Enter the code for the Theft-lock system into the radio.
