Question about 1991 Suzuki Sidekick

No power at speeds over 55 mph

I have no power to exceed 55 mph, it has just started this. The air system is clear, the fuel filter is new,the plugs and wires rotor etc. replaced, it does not smoke or use oil, gas mileage is gone and so has top end power, it used to run along 70to 80 no problem. Thanks

High or low RPM? Could be worn clutch or, yes, bad plugs. I hate NGK for his issue......

U have to operate the engine at all kinds of diff speeds and drive modes, it is called a OBDII drive cycle, here is how u do one.
1. As soon as the engine starts, idle the engine in drive for two and a half minutes with the A/C and rear defrost on. OBDII checks oxygen sensor heater circuits, air pump and EVAP purge.

2. Turn the A/C and rear defrost off, and accelerate to 55 mph at half throttle. OBDII checks for ignition misfire, fuel2_bing.gif trim and canister purge.

3. Hold at a steady state speed of 55 mph for three minutes.

OBDII monitors EGR, air pump, O2 sensors and canister purge.

4. Decelerate (coast down) to 20 mph without braking or depressing the clutch. OBDII checks EGR and purge functions.

5. Accelerate back to 55 to 60 mph at half throttle. OBDII checks misfire, fuel trim and purge again.

6. Hold at a steady speed of 55 to 60 mph for five minutes.

OBDII monitors catalytic converter efficiency, misfire, EGR, fuel trim, oxygen sensors and purge functions.

7. Decelerate (coast down) to a stop without braking. OBDII makes a final check of EGR and canister purge

This year of ranger had a few flaws, In one case, a break power booster was robbing the vacumm, you can test this by plugging it off and seeing the differance, but you will have limited brakes. This model year had a problem with a vacuum leak on the manifold. You can check these in many ways, but please don't use starting fluid. The rear of the manifold usually on the drivers side where it seals to the block.
Also, in 2 other cases a cracked head has gave me the same problem. It is caused from a loss of vacuum.

Sounds like itr is not getting enough fuel. Try or check the fuel filter for dirt or water, and also check the fuel pump pressure to see if it meet factory specs.

Not much. 1. Keep the tires inflated properly; that makes a big diff. 2. Don't carry anything you don't need...keep it light. 3. Use the lowest octane fuel that will work without the engine making noise(knocking or pinging). 4. Never use a roof rack! (Skis or bike, luggage etc) 5. Do your maintenance on time/keep the thing tuned. 6. Don't jackrabbit start. (making the tires go real fast from a stop) Get quickly to the speed you want and stay there. Changing speed uses more fuel. 7. Slow down. After about 55 MPH most vehicles start using relatively much more fuel. 8. Use the air conditioner and keep the windows closed. Newer car air conditioners are very efficient but old cars weren't so some old timers will tell you to not use the air but that's only for older models. 9. Don't leave the engine running when you're not moving. 10. Don't warm-up the engine in the morning to clear the ice. Use a scraper, drive slowly until the engine warms.(but make sure you can see)
