Question about Mitsubishi Mighty Max

New water pump not pumping. the t'stat is removed. I can blow through radiator; it's not stopped up. I can pour water into the engine from the top. it flows through. 94 mighty max 2.4 overheats. is the flow rate through the water pump so slow to be undetectable? all evidence says the coolant should fly through the system.

Too many factors could be affecting your unit.

check the hoses, it may be bent and water would not flow fast with a bent hose. check your fan if you have and if they are running as temperature rises.

My 1998 ford expedition heats up at high speed 60mph plus not on low speed


if its the correct rad for the truck it should fit no problem. there are a couple things that might be causing the overheating. first is the fan clutch is not working at highspeed. if its electric fan then that would be easy to check with two wires to the battery. if the radiator core is clogged you would not be able to tell unless you pull the radiator and rip it apart. no way to put in back together if you did that. one way to see if the radiator is clogged is take the water out and run water from a hose in the top and see if it pours out the bottom hole as fast. it should pour out. the other thing that could be bad is the waterpump or the stat. not to many parts for the cooling system. i know a lot of the stuff is new. if you have air in the system you need to try and find the bleeder or lift the truck in such a way to get the air out. not sure what stat you used. i drill a tiny hole in them when i replace them if they don't have a bleeder built in. this helps get the air out easier.

Over heating problems


Hello,

when the car overheats, is there still water in the radiator?

If there is water in the radiator and the car overheats, then it means there might be some dirt or blockage in the radiator or condenser.

When the car is on the motion, air passes through the front and assists the fan to cool the engine. There are situation whereby air doesn't have free flow because of blockage in the radiator and condenser. Dust and debris can cause blockage. If this be the case, have your radiator washed thoroughly and cleaned.

If there is no water in the radiator when the car overheats, then there is a probably a leakage from the water pump. Or maybe your fan isn't blowing properly. The fan might be blowing weak air.

The above are what could cause your engine to over heat.

So start the check from the radiator. Poor water into the radiator, wait for some minutes, look under the car and observe if water is going to leak. If there is a leak, it might be from the water pump or a leaking hose.

If water from radiator has no leak, have your radiator washed and clean the condenser has they might block air that is suppose to cool the engine.

Also, make sure your fan is blowing properly or well enough to cool the engine.

Make sure you have the above checked thoroughly as they are the major causes of problems like this.

This overheating problem could lead to a burnt gasket and this can dry the engine oil which will eventually knock the engine. So have this problem fixed to prevent further damage that will cost you more money.

Lastly, remove the hose that connects the radiator to the engine, water from the engine will come out. Pour water into the radiator, the water will flow through the hose down to the ground. Do this severally. Now connect the hose back to the engine, pour water into the radiator. Start the engine, the water in the radiator will reduce, add more water till radiator is full.

In summary, the major cause of over heating problem is from the radiator, fan, water pump, blockage in the hose, and dirt in in/on the condenser. These are area you need to concentrate on.

I forgot to mention that the acceleration meter or engine meter on the dash board shouldn't be more the 5. It should be below 5. If it is above 5, it can cause overheating. I hope you understand what I mean.....

Replace a 1995 Ford Thunderbird water pump


drain radiator, remove fan, disconnect bypass hose from top of water pump. remove mounting bolts, clean gasket surface and install new pump and gasket. re assemble and pour coolant back into radiator

I have a 1999 mk4 golf 1.8 gti. i get no hot air blowing in and the engine temp rises alot when i go above 60mph


Low coolant level, failed thermostat, blocked radiator core or failed pump are all possible causes. Check them in the order given in the list as they become more complex and expensive to fix. Coolant level is easy enough to check, if low just top up at the reservoir. Whilst doing this check that the relief valve in the cap is OK and that the filler cap sits tightly when screwed down. For the thermostat drain the coolant (should be a bled valve for this purpose towards bottom of radiator) into a bucket and remove the 'stat housing and put the 'stat in a pan of simmering water. The 'stat plate should open up about 5mm. Take the pan from the heat and add cold water and the 'stat should close after about a quarter volume of cold water has been added. If the 'stat fails to open or close then replace it. Whilst the system is drained of coolant remove the top and bottom rubber hoses from the radiator. With a hose flush water into the top radiator opening and check if water exits freely from the bottom of the radiator. If there is a sign of blockage put the hose in the bottom opening and put the water on full pressure to back flush the radiator. Keep doing this until the water is clear. If everything up until now has been fine the last thing to look at is the water pump, either the pump has seized or there is a fault with impeller. When refilling the coolant system after any repair make sure that the interior heater is on maximum. When warming the engine up keep the heat on maximum and this will help displace air trapped in the system. Whilst warming up squeeze the radiator hoses regularly again to keep bubbles moving towards the reservoir filler. Keep the reservoir topped up as air bubbles work their way out. Only when the engine is nearly at running temperature tighten the filler cap. After having driven the car, let it cool off and check the coolant level, again top up as necessary.

Car Overheating


Hello, Do the fan(s) come on when hot? Blow out the radiator core with compressed air (from the engine side) to clear it of bugs and other debris. Make sure the radiator is full to the top (when cold) and check the radiator cap seal rubber and the over-flow tank and tubing for leakage. It's possible that the water pump impeller is slipping on it's shaft and not pumping water properly. Remove the thermostat temporarily and remove the radiator cap. Remove some of the water so that the level is somewhat below the cap bottom, then start the engine and watch for rapidly moving water. That will show that the pump is moving water well. Allow the engine to heat up and keep track of the water movement. Shut the engine off at low end of 'normal' on the temp gauge and replace the cap so that it doesn't blow out boiling water into your face. Replace the thermostat and top up the water when cold again.

Okay sounds like you have a clog within the system, first of all, drain the whole cooling system, run clean water thought the top of the radiator, look to see when the water comes out nice clear, replace the lower hose if you have a petcock close that, refill the top of the radiator, until it is full, start the engine, with engine running turn your heater, let the car warm a little, then reopen the petcock or loosen the lower hose and let the water draw out a little until is pouring out nice and fast, then re-close the petcock and stop the engine.
try and get 40% of the water out, and replace it with 50/50 antifreeze fill to the right point of the cars specs.
