    I have the 01 F-150 S-crew with the 4.6.

Truck started doin the herky jerky not long after we got it a year ago. Shop couldnt find problem. Did new fuel filter and injector cleaner. seemed to do it. A few months ago, it started again. Injector cleaner worked. Then a few weeks ago, did it again. New fuel filter. Changed plugs for 1st time since getting it, as dealership said theyd done new. Plugs were rusted in, so the dealership lied. It worked for about 2 weeks and then started shaking a bit, not as much as before. Then two days ago it did it again hard-core. Checked the plug connect, batt connect, alt and alt plug connect, MAF 'appears' okay, so all good. Still jerking. It surges, and now at idle I can go down my street at 15mph, before I got 8-10mph at idle. Also wondering what the sensor is called that is between the MAF and intake manifold? Could it be problematic? Cant afford the cost the shop wants for a scope run. HELP, its our one dependable means of transpo in the family.

I have a 2001 f150 6cyc, and I have the rough idle after it warms up and a when I come to a stop the truck starts to shake. Had a smog and they informed me that the engine was running lean, so I replaced the fuel filter and NO change. Any help is appreciated.

It started up ok, but I noticed it running rough and the Overdrive light was flashing "off", When I restarted the truck it did ok. I thought maybe bad gas and add some stuff to the gas tank, this morning it did the same jerking and the light for overdrive was flashing again.......any suggestions?

My '97 F-150 started doing the same thing a few weeks ago. Took it to the Ford garage yesterday. They found a bad spark plug wire and because of that, a bad plug also. Have you had it tuned-up lately?

It would happen anytime, but especially uphill. The whole truck would shake. Had the plug wire and plug replaced yesterday. So far so good. Hope you find something. Sorry I couldn't help.

I have a noise in the fuel tank of my 1999 cadillac escalade is this noise could be cause by a bad fuel pump or a dirty fuel filter? Also when i turn my truck on some times a little biy of blue smoke comes...

as for the noise if it is a high pitched whine that you can hear while the engine is running its probably normal...most of them sound like this. it should be the same sound that comes on briefly as you turn the ignition on before the engine starts. if it is extremely loud, it may be a build up of debris in the filter causing too much back pressure on the pump or the pump may be on its way out. as for the blue smoke.... blue smoke is oil burning in the engine. you didnt say how many miles are on the vehicle but as a vehicle ages it will usually consume some oil as the engine is running. if the smoke only comes out on start up its probably due to the valve seals weeping a tiny bit of oil thru them and its burned up once the engine is running. its not too much to be overly concerned with at the moment, just check your oil level in the engine a little more frequently as now you know that you are consuming some oil at times. also switching to a "high milage" oil may help as they have conditioners in the oil that slightly swell rubber seals in the engine.

sounds like a fuel problem to me. check on the fuel rack for a valve that looks exactly like a tire valve, turn your ignition key to 'on' position, then take a nail and push in on the tire looking valve{caution!!!} wear protective glasses as the fuel will shoot up into your eyes if fuels going to fuel rack!! if no fuel comes out, then suspect 1st bad fuel filter. then bad fuel pump,if not that, then bad fuel pressure regulator. if you have problem locating the fuel valve release, follow the fuel rail on top of the motor until you locate the pressure release valve[that's what you're looking for. thank you for choosing fixya.com

Engine turns but will not start

The most common reason for a jeep spinning over but not starting is a lack of fuel due to a bad fuel pump, a quick trick that sometimes works is to have someone trying to start while you beat the bottom of the fuel tank with a rubber hammer , this sometimes shakes the pump and makes it start working and truck starts, this means the pump is bad, another thing is to spary starting fluid spray into throtle and then see if it runs for a few secounds if it does then you know its a fuel problem then then for power at the pump connector, if theres power at the pump while cranking engine then i would say the pump is bad, also make sure theres a good ground to pump also, hope this helps good luck.

make sure the plug gaps are 25th as a wide plug gap will cause bad starting ,cannot see a fuel filter causing bad starting though but as a thought first check the vacumn pipe to the fuel opening valve on the fuel rail is a valve with a vacumn pipe running to it ,the vacumn of the engine opens this valve to allow the fuel for the injectors and if it has a vacumn loss then it will not start ,as for the pump then just check for a 12v feed to it engine is cranked ,lots of people change the fuel pump as they think their is no feed but it will only show a feed when engine is cranked then when it runs it will also show 12v ,right must go to make the tea or iam in the doghouse

Hello there:
To be totally truthfull with you i would first have the fuel filter changed to ensure that the fuel pump can do its job properly than if you want to know if the injectors are working the vehical needs to be running then go to each injector and pull the wire from the injector if the engine starts to shake or make a totaqlly different sound than you know this injector is working HOWEVER if there is no change in the way the engine runs than you have a bad injector or the wiring going to that injector is faulty ok>
I dont think that you pump is bad they rarly will not run at all if they are bad they either work or do not work but you can always take the outlet side hose off and get a large container and to catch the fuel in than have sombody turn the key to the on position and see if you are getting good flow but if it looks weak and barly coming out than yes replace the pump ok?
Hope this is very helpful for you.
Best regards mike
