Popping sound in steering column

This could be caused by the deterioration of this small flexible coupler located in the steering column. The good news is you don't need to have the entire steering column or intermediate shaft replaced as most people think. Dec 27, 2018 - It's the rubber coupler in the steering column. It's not really dangerous or hazardous as the steering still works fine, it's just annoying.

Strangely this is a known issue. I fixed my squeaking by spraying the gap behind the steering wheel and the the dash with Jigaloo, which is a dry silicone lubricant. Spray it just before you start driving.

It sounds like you disturbed the wiring or the connector inside the lower portion (inside the cabin, under the dashboard) of the steering column. A common problem for these trucks is the upper bearing in the steering column comes apart, hold the steering wheel and try to move it up and down, if the wheel has play in it as if the tilt was being used then its the upper bearing in the steering column.

you have bearings and a turn signal switch.. these go bad. you can replace you whole steering column wih a used on vs replacing the partst to save money. this will save you $300-450
