Question about 1995 Honda Accord

95 Accord starting problem

I have a 95 Accord. About four months ago, I developed a starting problem. At times the car will crank but not start...the "check engine" light stays on and sometimes the D4 light flashes.
The car has been in the shop off and on for about THREE MONTHS. I have replaced the Main Relay, the "Brain" computer, the key switch on the column, but the problem persists.
I have noticed that the electric fuel pump does not start when the car won't start...then when it turns on, the car will immediately start. I am pretty sure that I am getting power to the pump as soon as the key is in the "on" position. The failure to start seems directly related to the fuel pump not turning on.
Any suggestions??? This is very frustrating...I have spent a lot of money already...there is nothing harder to fix than an intermittent problem!

Thanks,

Larry Kasprzyk

Hi,i had the exact same problem, and after many frustrating months ,i found out that by changing the speed sensor relay(located on the gearbox),solved all the problems.6 months have passed and still no troubles.when the motor heats up yhe contacts in the relay expand and dont make contact, thats why if you wait a short time and it cools down a bit it starts.i hope it works for you also.

Cranks won't start

First you must check to see if engine is mechanical sound by performing a compression test. remove the spark plugs install a compression gauge in the spark plug hole and crank engine about 4 cycles compare readings to all cylinders reading should be around 125-150 psi readings in the 50 psi range possible jumped or broken timing belt. If engine is mechanically sound test for spark at the spark plugs use a spark plug laid against valve cover and have some one crank it over look for the spark to jump the gap. A no spark problem is internal in the distributor.

Will not start (no fuel pressure)

put your emergency brake on, in park, foot on brake, and have someone lay on the ground and rap the fuel tank at its lowest point (this is where the fuel pump is) at the same time crank it to start, if it starts decide where you want to take it to avoid a tow bill and dont shut it off till your there. otherwise if it does not start, when was the last fuel filter replaced!

1995 Honda accord does not start when car sit for a while

Check your compression. If you don't have a compression checker, take the plugs out, shoot a squirt of oil in each cylinder, replace plugs and crank engine. If engine starts, you are probably looking at a bad set of rings.
