Question about 1995 Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

Turn signal quit working

I have a '95 Grand Am. The right signal quit working and the signal light on the instrument panel burned solid, so I replaced the bulb. The next time I used the signal, the instrument light came back on and the bulb blew. I figure there's a short but I have no idea where to begin to look for it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thank you for your responce. I verified the bulb this morning and it was, in fact, the correct bulb. The left signal still works perfectly. I'm at a loss.

The rear lights work as they should, except that when I flip the switch, the rear turn signal burns steady. The clicking is there on the left, but not the right. The front signal had a light on the front (also used as a marker/parking light) and a light in front of the right front wheel. These two lights are designed to blink opposite each other as the turn signal, but neither flash or burn as marker lights, as designed to do. All fuses are the correct size are are fine.

Are you sure you got the correct bulb when you replace the 1st bad one. Car bulbs are all designed to run on 12 volts. The only way the bulb could burn out would be for it to get more than 12 volts applied to it. This is not possible since the highest voltage available in cars is 12 volts.

Your original analysis of the signal lite not working and the indicator light on the instrument panel burning solid was correct. The solid light on the panel is designed to stay on so you will know that a turn light is out. I suspect you may have been given the wrong replacement. A short should have blown a fuse, but not the bulb.

A lot of the bulbs that are used as turn lights have a 2nd filament in them that is used for parking lites and/or brake lights. Is there any part of that right side lights working? check parking lites and check brake lites.

The next thing to check is the flasher. Can you hear it clicking when you use it for the left side? Now try it for the right side. can you hear anything?

My turn signals sometimes will quit working then I have to hit the hazard lights button leave it on and then turn my turn signals on then they work what causes this to happen

When the turn signals quit working pull up , down , front to back an back to front on the turn signal switch handle . Do they work when doing this ? Pontiac had bad switch . The power for the turn signals goes through the flasher / hazard module . Could be the switch or the module.
The HAZARD LPS fuse in the left hand instrument panel (LH IP) junction block supplies battery positive voltage to the flasher module, which is part of the hazard switch assembly. The TURN LPS fuse in the LH IP junction block supplies ignition positive voltage to the flasher module. The turn signal lamps may only be activated with the ignition switch in the ON position. When the turn signal switch is placed in either the left or right position, current flow is from the flasher module's output to the turn signal switch assembly. The flasher module then sends an on-off voltage signal to either the left or right turn signals and their instrument panel cluster (IPC) indicator. When the hazard switch is pressed, all the turn signal lamps will flash including both IPC turn signal indicators.

I had the same problem on a 92 & 95 Dakota years ago, replaced the turn signal switch in the column & found a loose ground wire in the harness back by the tail lights. Never had a problem again. If you're gonna try to replace the switch you will need tamper proof torques bits just FYI. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

How to fix my right brake light and fast moving turn signal on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The most likely problem is two burned out light bulbs. A burned out tail/stop lamp on the right side and a burned out brake lamp on the left. If you have already replaced the bulbs, then yes, the circuit boards are the next most likely cause of the problem.

95 Chevy lumina van, heat on won't turn off. A/c

Hi wodermom26,

Your Lumina APV is a clone of the Pontiac Transport and Oldsmobile APV's which all have identical Heater & A/C controls. The Heater & A/C controls usually wear out mechanically causing no control of temperature. This is a difficult repair and is best made by a dealers ASE Certified Technician. A/C may require re-charging and or possible replacement of the hoses which carry the refrigerant as they become porous and leak. Additionally, the Compressor and its Clutch may possibly require replacement.

The High beams are controlled by pushing the Turn Signal switch forward toward the Instrument panel and have a momentary "Flash to Pass" function by pulling the Turn Signal Lever upward toward the steering wheel and return to Low Beam upon release of the turn signal Lever. If neither function of the Beam selector lights the High Beams it is pssible that the Headlamp bulbs are burned out or open connections in the wiring harnesses. Do you have an owners manual for your Lumina? If so it has information regarding the Multi-Functions of the Turn Signal Lever.

It seems that the bulbs went out or the ribbon cable that runs behind the instrument panel burned out check on a junkyard for a replacement instrument panel and replace it, verify that the truck you pull out the instrument cluster is the same year and the same model.

Dash and shifter lights in 1996 jeep cherokee wont light

Hello and welcome to FixYa . Locate the dial that controls the brightness of the dashboardlights. If the control is not immediately evident. Make sure the brightness control is turned on. If it is and the lights aren't working, the problem may be a bad fuse. Check the fuse that controls the dashboard lights Replace the fuse if necessary. If just one part of the instrument panel is not lighting up, then you have either a burned-out bulb or a wiring problem.
