Oil questions for 2003 Audi A6 Quattro

2003 Audi A6 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 59,000 miles

Hi, I am thinking about buying a 2003 Audi A6 Quattro with 59,000 miles and i have never owned this type of car before. I am currently test-driving it and it appears that it hasn't been serviced in a while. So, my concern was what if it hasn't been serviced on a regular basis. Could there be something wrong with the car, that I can't tell? Also, when changing the oil what type of oil do these cars usually use and where is the best type of places to get an Audi serviced? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ok thanks... do you think if previous owners didn't keep the oil
changed in it there could be damage? Just curious b/c the car lot told
us to drive it home so we could see how we liked it and we were
checking it out and there wasn't enough oil in it to touch the dip
stick..but there are also no warning lights on or anything either... so
the salesman called and told us to add a little bit of oil to last
until they could get it serviced for me.. could this pose a problem?

Cars do use oil, but if you think it hasn't been changed or the wrong type of oil used stay away from this car.

I will add to what Dennis said. No preventative maintenance apparently & just driven.no oil changes I would avoid buying it Also Euro cars will kill you in parts & your going to be at a dealer more than a repair shop when you need something done because of the scan tools needed & a lot of north american shop won't invest or get involved I wouldn't.

I can't find where the alarm module is on the car to replace it. Car will turn itself off while driving thinking its been stolen. Car horn alarm will go off by itself. Forum suggested alarm module was the problem, said the module was in the trunk (boot). I can't find it and appreciate your telling me where it is as all I basically have to do is plug it in when I find it.

Oil type is either 5W-30W or 10W-30W depending how cold your climate is, as far as having the car properly taken care of, the Audi dealer is the best option, they have all the proper tools and service info needed to keep the car in top running condition.

You need to start the engine cold, like overnight cold, have the hood open and listen for any abnormal noises like a knock of any kind, a little ticking would be nothing to worry about as long as it goes away in a few seconds, if there is not a record of regular oil changes I would be concerned, also make sure the coolant in the radiator is not rusted or otherwise discolored, cooling systems are very expensive to repair on newer cars, ask if it was flushed if the car has over 60,000 miles on it. Other items to check the trans fluid if it is an automatic, is it burnt? check for oil leaks from the engine and trans and cooling system, have the brake wear noted, if the pads are less than 25% ask to replace them.

If this info is useful please rate my suggestions, thanks.

For 2003 Audi A6 Quattro the only oil that should be used is European spec. Castrol or Mobil1 0-40 which clearly states in the manual.10w30 should not be used and, of course I am talking synthetic only!!

You are right, the manual states Castrol 5W40 synthetic.

Comment about "emmisionwiz" NO, it is not true that dealer is best option in any case..many shops specialized for
European cars have tools and knowledge, and they are getting parts..guess from where? Dealers, for 30-35% cheaper, or aftermarket sources. Expert? Maybe you are and you are working for a dealer!!

About the 4.2. I own one. The capacity says 8 quarts but when you change it it really takes about 8.3 to bring it to the full line when the oil is warm

A6 turbocharged. Whyu does it smoke when it covers a 120km per hour?

I am going to say 'blown turbo'. As I understand it, they needs replacing every few years. They are susceptible to heat and incredible revolutions. They have to be lubricated, the seals go, and you get smoke.

What oil i need for an audi A6 1.9 tdi with 100.000 miles on.I HAVE USE CASTROL MAGNATEC 10W 40 SO FAR BUT MY MECANIC TOLD ME NOT TO USE IT ANYMORE IT IS NOT SO GOOD WHAT SHOULD I USE?

I've come to love the 100% synthetic oil I put in my 1998 Audi A6 Quattro. My fuel range increased, by what % I'm not sure but it's defenitely better. All I've read about synthetics compared to conventionals solves the many questions I've had. I used to run only conventionals in my nCadilac Northstar engines till one day it blew up. I homestly believe the engine would haave never had been dameged if I wiuld have had 100% synthrtics in ig.
