Question about 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix
The daytime running lights (drl) and blower motor speed selector are interacting in the following ways:
* If the blower motor is in the off position, the drl's go on but go off as soon as the blower selection is made to low, m1, m2,or m3 position. The AC or back windoe defroster are not accessible.
* If drl's are off and the blower motor is in high speed (no resistores in the circuit) the drl's and blower motor come on after ~30 seconds; AC and rear defroster work. If another blower motor selection is made, every thing goes off.
I have the same problem. I've heard the ignition switch harness is shorting out and replacing the ignition switch ($75-$125 part) will fix it. A few torx drivers and sockets are needed to replace it (a 4mm hex socket works for the column covers, but the bolts holding the ignition switch in are even smaller. I have it apart down to where I need a smaller torx socket to continue.)
