Question about 1996 Chevrolet Camaro

1 Answer

Cut back My boyfriend has a 1996 Chevy Camaro and on a recent road trip I noticed when he got on the gas going up an incline or hill the motor seemed to cutback or cut out.I say it has to do with the fuel system. We have had fuel shortages in the south lately and I am thinking he may have gotten trash in his gas.On level roadway it does fine. Also the check engine light came on after a while.I know on my 1998 Chevy Malibu when that happened it was my transmission but it was also slipping. He put STP gas treatment in the fuel tank.Could it be the trash it is cleaning off and will it get better in time? Thanks, A Marines Mom

I have a toyota 1994 hiace van, automatic transmission. it becomes slow even on a slight hill road and i need to accelerate more, is it normal or is there any problem with it? all the gears are well c

Typical of a heavy van that is underpowered. I hear review after review about how weak this thing is going up inclines. I do hear that the motor is virtually bulletproof tho. Enjoy your van, don't expect to fly up hills, but expect to get over 500,000 miles on your motor if you do only the minimium maintence.

Car stalled out and died. Cranks, but wont start all of the sudden.

On an incline that you stopped on, dont under estimate that if your low on fuel it may not be picked up by the fuel pump, or your fuel pump may have went out. If you run low on fuel often or up & down hill on low fuel will cause your fuel pump to burn out premature, they even say not to run less than a qrtr tank to be safe, but todays cost in fuel usually people wait till the last minute (gallon) which puts a strain on the fuel pump as the gas cools the motor and incline and decline in roads will mimic a low tank. What doesnt make sence is you sprayed starting fluid which should have fired for a few seconds, which brings you to spark issues, check you coil pack plugs and wires, most likely coil pack over plug and wires should still fire even if a plug or wire goes bad, but the coil pack controls the power going to the wire then plugs.

Engine doesnt like to start on a hill when low on gas.

Because you have limited gas, the small amount of gas that you have in there isnt being sent thru your fuel line because ur on a slant. Thus when your level, gas is distributed evenly in the tank and fed thru your fuel system. duh.

Loss of power, transmission not shifting

i know the camp verde hill of which you speak , last vehicle in the shop with that same scenario , after doing everything possible including a catalyst check , as we could not duplicate the problem , we replaced fuel pump at owners request and next trip he confirmed it was a fix .

Still dies

Have you checked out the fuel pump? Check the fuel pump because Ford did put out bad pumps. My 99 did a similar problem of stalling and or shutting off when on inclines or declines. Turned out that 3 out of the 4 welds broke on the fuel pump in the tank and caused the rubber line to pinch and starve the motor of gas.
