Galant 2003,Abnormal whinning noise on gear shifting.

Hi,
On my galant 2003 I have been recently hearing a whinning noise when the gears are changing.I have been mointoring this, the sound has not increased and the gear shift is smooth.What could be the problem?, any ideas!.

I would have the transmission fluid checked to see if it needs any added and if it doesn't it sounds like a bearing going out or something. I would take the car to the dealer, since it's fairly a newer model and see if they can find the source of the problem. they are best when it comes to knowing everything about your car than any other shop around.

Check the gear linkages for wear at all the joints and connections. Check for worn or missing rubber or nylon bushes or loose connector ends. Have someone hold the gear shift input into the box and move the gear lever, there should be minimal movement except in the neutral position and then only left to right.
