First of all you shouldn't be reving that high to change gears. that's too high. secondly if it's grinding only during the change from 1st to 2nd gear you may have a problem with the gears not being aligned anymore...ie synchronizers worn out, bearings worn out, etc. take to reputable transmission shop to get it diagnosed and repaired. it sounds like the synchronizers are a problem there. and you may have metal in your fluid now that it's been grinding which will affect the rest of the transmission. if you are speed shifting as in racing, you are not doing your transmission any good. you probably don't have a transmission built to do that if it's the original factory tranny... meaning you did a major NO NO to your tranny and are tearing it up speed shifting when it isn't built for racing.

Sounds like you have a bad shifter or a bad slave cylinder. Check the fluid in the reservoir and if you're losing some, then you need to see where the leak is coming from. If it's at the slave cylinder, you're in for an expensive repiar.

My 2004 audi s4 makes gronchy noise when i put it in to 2nd gear when cold whats causing it?

If I've understood your problem correctly.....when changing from 1st gear into second the box is giving a metal on metal crunching sound?
  • This would be the syncromesh ring which is not equalizing the speed correctly.
  • The problem usually happens when there is wear on the same part.
  • Check to make sure that the correct transmission fluid has been used in the box.
  • To alleviate the problem and delay the time when it will require attention, use the double de- clutch method of changing gears, especially when the transmission is cold.
  • The double de-clutch is carried out in the following way.
  1. When in gear and changing from 1st gear to 2nd, change into neutral and release the clutch and then depress again before selecting 2nd gear....It is not required to rev the engine in the neutral position when changing up....
  2. When changing down rev the engine when the shift lever is in neutral for each change.
You'll soon get the hang of it and stop the crunching sound, protecting the box at the same time....

I have a 2001 mazda 626 manual transmission . The car jurk in 1st 2nd 3rd gear . Do u think I should add gear oil. Where do I add the gear oil at

It sounds more like a clutch problem than tranny. You can try the oil in there, but I think the clutch is shot. Check the fluid in the clutch master and make sure it is working right, no slipping, crunching, grinding, the jerking sounds like oil on the clutch. Check it out.

Hard shift from 1st to 2nd, then 2nd to 3rd.

Dont think they changed it yet but the older chrysler units had a rod that went from the throttle linkage to the transmission (maybe a cable now)...If you lengthen the rod it will increase shift pressure and give you an earlier shift.

What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.

Ford : back the truck up 10ft put truck in neutral and disengage four wheel low. (You can't drive in four wheel low cause its a pulling gear and you won't do over 3-5 mph.)
Nissan: start truck see if it idles normal. If so rev motor and check throttle for sticking and check EGR valve make sure its not stuck open or malfunctioning when you drive it..

Grinding sound on pressing clutch in at high revs

The grinding sound may be a throw out bearing or the pilot bearing. The sticking throttle problem sounds like a linkage or cable binding up from possibly damage due to the impact from the accident.
