Question about 1997 Honda CR-V

1 Answer

Unusual noise My girlfriend's '97 CR-V occassionally makes a brief low growling noise when she accellerates hard. It seems consistant within a speed/RPM/load range. To me, the noise sounds like a vibration, perhaps in the exhaust system, but definately in the front of the car. I did find that the exhaust manifold heat shield was rusted and in need of replacement- several mounting tabs were loose. The car now has a new one and I've found no other explanation for the noise, but she complains that the noise is still there. I've checked hoses, lines, fluid levels, axle shafts. etc... I'm running out of things to check. Any body out there have a suggestion?

You mat want to have the lifters checked and re torqued if the car has more than 100k miles.

they tighten after time on thair own and will cause the engine to shake and feel sluggish.

1998 Honda CR-V makes low pitched shuddering or growling noise intermittently when turning sharp right or left at very low speeds.

YOU should find that if you let off the turn a bit and not turn on hard full lock,, now do this stopped and someone sitting in the drivers seat and bonnet open and turning the steering wheel with engine running in idle
if the noise goes and the shuddering goes then its the powered steering pump is either low in fluid or airrating or if belt driven then see if belt is trying to stop on full lock and if it is then try a new belt or other wise its the pump faulty.

Low growling noise in front end

typically, this sounds like a wheel bearing. To test, the noise can often be altered by accellerating /decelerating, and more evident by turning the vehicle.

The truning process is to put load on one side, then the other. if the right side has a damaged bearing, for example, the noise would be noticibly altered (less in this case) when turning to the right. Load would be slightly less. Testing speed in the area of 25 to 35 mph.

Growling noise when turning

I think it is the rear differential fluid that needs to be changed. I had the same problem.

I may need to replace the front wheel bearing. There is a squeeling sound coming from the front right side of the car.

Normally a squeeling noise coming from the front wheel area would be the front brake disk pads getting too low. Normally when wheel bearings start to fail the noise they produce is more consistant which a growl noise.

Noise from the rear of my 97 crv when turning left and right

Hi

Sounds more a rear wheel bearing problem ?

Check for excessive play, and noise from both rear wheel bearings and hubs, with the vehicle jacked up and supported safely.

Good Luck !

A FixYa rating would be nice...Thanks... John.

The pressure control solenoid needs to be replaced. It"s under the side cover on the transmission on drivers side. Not a simple fix at home. You will also need a side cover gasket. The transmission does not need to be rebuilt.
