I have the same problem on my 92 4.0 ltr. The Chattering can get annoying, and I'm wondering if it will become a major issue later on down the road. With over 190,000 miles on this motor, it's maintenance is up to par. This in-line six is a beast and has impressive power, but the chattering under the valve cover has me concerned. What should I do?

When you say new parts, does that mean cranck bearings and rod bearings?
Is the noise from the top or bottom?
Top noise could be lifters or rocker arms.
Bottom noise could be crank or rod bearings.
Oil pressure?

It's hard to say what it can be without me hearing it.

    It's a 6 cylinder right?

I know for a fact that when I worked for Jeep, the 4.0 liter had some camshaft problems on cars with high mileage.

The lobes on the camshaft wear down and creates abnormal space between lobe and lifter.

This will give you the sound you hear.

A easy way to listen to sound in an engine is to get a screwdriver with
a long handle and put the tip on the engine where you think the noise
is coming from and the handle end to your ear.

This is like playing doctor to listen to the internals of the car.

Keep moving the tip of the screwdriver to different parts of the engine
until you come across the area where the noise is the loudest.

That should isolate where it's coming from.

    Good luck

Where is the fuel filter to a 2006 jeep liberty 6.7l v6? I can't even find where to buy one, but I figured, if im going to drop the tank to replace the pump, I might as well deal with that too.

The engine size is 3.7 but to answer your question, Chrysler products quit using external fuel filters many years ago. The last filter for Jeep was probably in 1998.
There is a sock filter before the pump, but that is a dealer part.

Jeep block casting code 53008403

what are you doing> , buying a bare block?

why not say what is in hand. (fit what? just tranny and mounts or what? , be legal or make EFI happy, or ? all other parts on engine?)

i did a www scan and in 1 second, bam the 4 banger

not the 4 liter.

2.5L gas engine not the diesel of same size.

so...

1984 to 2002 run (all year run lenght) not an answer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_straight-4_engine

what does FIT mean.

to the mounts, the transmission, all will

pass smog

be legal, say in CALIF? (strict year codes there.... btw)

make EFI happy (fit)

just the block, short block or just a naked block. you never said./

key fact on bell housing

Instead of the standard AMC bell housing bolt pattern, AMC/Jeep engineers adopted the General Motors small V6 and four-cylinder bolt pattern

short answer, all years fit, the short block.

In 1986 the head went under a minor revision, the head bolts were increased from 7/16 to 1/2 inch.

id bet that be lowest year.

http://www.allpar.com/mopar/amc-25.html

any with 1/2"head bolts

here is a nice page. google hits are free. huh?

http://engineguy.com/jeep-dodge-chrysler/2-5l-1.html?dir=desc&order=name

crank snout?

oil bypass

head bolt sizes

for sure the best answers are at all the top engine builders pages.

never on ebay. avoid them for facts.

you need a 530 block.

shop for that.

both DOHC engins are interfernance
if you skip belt changes, the valve bend and bye-bye engine.

Failed a emissions part of the smog test

It would depend on what the exhaust numbers are.
Too much fuel, not enough air, too much oil burning, etc.
Generally speaking, you would need to have access to a 4 gas analyzer to know if the repairs improve the numbers to the point of passing.
Otherwise, you could spend a set amount of money on tuneup work and other fuel related repairs if there is a set limit of money spent.

The fan for my heat/air conditioner isn't working. what do I need 2 check

either the switch or the fan, they are both at least 18 years old and 8 years beyond their expected life.
get a NEW fan, they are all pretty much the same, on eBay or a parts store. sits right above the passenger's feet in an upside down attitude. 3 or 4 screws lower it after disconnecting the wiring. gently stick a running vacuum hose up in the hole and swish it around a few times before putting the new one in. if that did not do it the switch is next. if it is the switch generally you will note some slow deterioration in its function over time. generally the fan as it is an electric motor.

1992 Buick LeSabre - Water Pump Bolts Near Engine Mount.

I'm not sure what motor you have in that Buick, but my wife's 92 Old's water pump went out and I had a heck of a time with the bottom two bolts. I talked to a mechanic and he told me to put a piece of wood on top of a floor jack, slide it under the oil pan and lift the motor off it's mounts to gain easier access ,and after I did, with a lot of patience I got the job done.(About 2 hours, a 1/4 turn a a time) I hope this helps
