Cylinders 1234 should be on the driver's side or right side as you look at the engine and 5678 are on the passenger or left side.

What is front bank? it has to be left or right on my vehicle

Are you trying to confuse me? It's kind of, uh.. Okay, bank refers to a side of an engine that is a v-6 or v-8 design. A bank is either bank 1 or bank 2. Bank 1 is always the side of the engine that has cylinder #1 on it, and bank 2 is the other side of the engine.

Now if you get a front bank out of that, then you are looking at a "transverse engine" layout, where the engine is stuffed into the car sideways for space saving front wheel drive layouts. The front bank is then the side or bank of the engine closest to the radiator. Does that help you, Mark?

Which cylinder is number 1

As you look from the front of the vehicle, the lower left cylinder is number 1. going up, they are 3 & 5. The right side bank is 2, 4 & 6.
If the banks are horizontal, then the top bank, left to right, is 1, 3, 5; bottom, left to right is 2, 4, 6

What side is the number 8 cyclinder spark plug is on?

AS you look at the engine under the hood your will see that the 8 cylinders are arranged in two banks of 4. One bank of 4 cylinders is just slightly more towards the front of the car/engine than the the other. The cylinder that is closest to the front of the engine is called 1 cylinder, as you look at the engine: this is the cylinder on the front right. Fords and Lincolns number the cylinders 1, 2, 3, and 4, front to to back, on the right and then 5, 6, 7, and 8, front to back, on the left bank. Number 8 cylinder is the back left as you face the engine. I keep making reference to the orientation of the viewer when calling the engine left and right. Everything above is correct when looking at the engine under the hood. But strictly speaking the engine is labelled from the point of view of the direction of the vehicle so the right cylinder bank that you look at is actually called the 'left' cylinder bank and vice versa. Do not worry about this gratuitous confusion the cylinder 8 is still the one closest to the windscreen /firewall
