Electronic immobiliser warning light on engine will not start on Peugot 406 HDI 90 problem, can anybody advise on how to overcome this fault

I also have a 406 and the Key sign came on this morning (Electronic immobiliser warning light) and my car wouldn't start.

2.8 HDi Boxer the immobiliser stays on when the engine is hot. After about 20 minutes it will start. That's real trouble when you stop on the foecourt for diesel and then ahve to sit there for 20 minutes.

My guess is that the immobliser part of the diesel pump is faulty. It is off to the dealers soonish. I imagine it will be an arm and a leg. As it is 2004 with 14,000 miles I am expecting Peugeot to pick up most of the bill.

Check fuse 6 in the fuse box under the steering wheel. Undo 3 screws and loosen the steering wheel adjuster, flop the flap down and look for FUSE 6, it is about middle on the top row. I think it should be 6.5A but mine had a 10A in it. Mine was blown and gave the symptoms you describe. Car started as soon as the fuse was replaced, but mine blew again and now always blows, so the AA have just driopped me back home on a low loader :-(

Peugeot 406 problems

I hate to rain on your parade but welcome to the world of French car electrics. You could try an owners forum or a non franchised specialist may help. This is why people in the know only buy new and sell on after 3 years. Renault, Peugeot, Citroen all suffer from nightmare electrical faults. My only suggestion is to check as best as you can all harness connections for tight fit and any corrosion.

The ignition key may be defective or in need of a battery to generate the code needed to disarm the immobilizer. Hope this helps!

2003 Peugot 406 Hdi Estate. Cutting out whilst driving and at idle (poss when wife adjusts driver seat). Happened a few months ago after service - suspected air in system. Wife noticed air in fuel pipe...

renew the flexible hose connections at the tank end if fitted and not a plastic pipe going straight to sender unit .Sucking in air problem is one of THEM jobs .a right pain to find 99%of the time .but any flexible rubber pipes can and do go porous with age

Couple of months ago would cut out when but start immediately

I dont belive it is air that is cousing your problem. Think it is more an electrical isue. I have had some problems with relay module (engine bay, near engine computer). And check fuel lift pump.
hope it helps
