Question about 2000 Hyundai Elantra

Engine riding rough

Last night coming home, my check engine began blinking on my 2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS. The engine seemed to get 'jumpy' when i give it gas. When parked it acted jumpy and sluggish like it wanted to die. Anyone know anything about this situation? Could it be spark plugs?

I have the same very annoying problem. I put new spark plugs, filters and replaced the motor gaskets. My mechanic have referred me to an electrician who have a modern tester, because his tester don't detect the failure. I will go probably next week. I hope he can solve this, the car is actually unmanageable.

I have the SAME problem with my 2000 Elantra! I had this one month ago and had the plugs and wires changed, and now it's back again! Driving it is so horrible that I don't want to take it anywhere to have it checked. I hate this car!

I have the same problem with my 2000 Elantra. Was diagnosed on a tester with a vaccuum leak code nearly 2 years ago. Check engine light on nearly all the time but was running just fine, 2 repair places not able to locate the actual leak. Last week started it up, suddenly running very rough in idle and with acceleration, check engine light flashing, told not to drive it to the garage and had it towed. Analyzed again with the same vaccuum leak code and also with a misfire code. Couldnt find the leak again, of course, pulled the sparkplug from the cylinder that was supposed to be misfiring and found it to be just fine. Ran ok for the mechanics after they put it all back together and ran ok for me for 2 days and then had the problems start all over again. Been sitting in my driveway ever since. Cant afford to pay more money for nothing to be found or to buy another car so very frustrated. Help!

By the way, a couple of months before this all began to happen 2 years ago, I had all of my sparkplugs and wires replaced and some kind of fuel injector additive, sorry I cant remember exactly what it was called, put in that was suppose to increase the performance of the engine. Goodyear suggested that I do it because of the age and mileage of the car at the time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...thanks!!!!.

If it has a check engine light the simplest thing to do would probably go to auto zone or advance and ask them to do a code check, its free and will probably tell you the problem and take allot of the guess work out of it.

If the check engine light is on and/or flashing you should get the engine computer checked for trouble codes to proceed.

Check engine, battery, oil lights are on?

The Check Engine tells you that something is wrong about your ride. Get your ride check for error code and take necessary steps to resolve the issue. Also you can post the error codes so that we can help you to solve the issue. Battery light lit means that your battery needs to be charged or the electrolyte in the battery is low. Also it can be possible that the battery needs replacement. Last the oil light alerts you to change the engine oil. The engine oil prevents the engine components from wearing due to friction and suppresses the heat generation keeping the metal parts in proper working condition.

Have you checked the air filter and filter box for a blockage ?
Low fuel pressure would also be a possible cause.

2002 hyundai elantra gls . low idle speed, check engine light on, and doesn't shift out of low gear . ( 50,000 ) miles

Did the 'Check Engine' Light come ON? Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on. You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra Wagon GLS, just had alternator replaced and check engine light came on on way home. Any suggestions?

The check engine light comes on because of an error detected by the car's computer. You need to have the specific error code read with a code reader/computer.
