I have a keyless entry alarm that works sporadically at best. I can't find cut off switch for alarm ( ther's a toggle under driver side dash but it didn't stop the alarm when I pushed it). Is tis the valet switch? Do I have to go through particular sequence to disarm? Any other viable approaches to disarm the alarm?

Re: 1198 Dodge Ram Pickup
It sounds like you may have an aftermarket alarm system. it can be removed completely from the vehicle. if it is a factory system the key fob or unlocking the door wit the key should disarm the system. if they dont you may want to have a dealer or reputable shop check the system

I own a 1998 dodge durango and Keyless entry does not work all the time and sets my alarm off. There is a valet switch which will perminately disarm the alarm, but I a unsure of it;s location under the dash. Can you help me with this.
turn key to on position, just before it turns over. Within 5 seconds press and hold in the valet/overide button found under the dash area until the blinking light in your dash area goes off and the siren chirps twice. If you have the toggle type, do the same but toggle on after turning key, then turn key off. This should reset the alarm. Repeating these steps places the vehicle back in valet mode. If you don't have the valet switch, you don't have an alarm. I don't seem to remember the 99 explorer having an alarm, and it does not show up in my manuals, only keyless entry.
sounds like an aftermarket alarm. if it is the try to remove the fuses from the unit. they will be located under the dash. if its a chrysler factory alarm try disconnecting the battery and let it sit for 5 minutes or so. that should reset everything
take your truck to dealer and have them enable keyless entry if your truck is equipped with it,or one other thing is to check your owners manual to see how to reprogam the units when batteries are replaced
sometimes turning the ignition on 3 times quickly without starting will reset the computer. If the van has power locks and keyless entry then try using only the keyless entry. Sometimes your car wont have a alarm but an anti theft device which will not allow it to start if it goes off or something triggers it.
If you need to purchase new remotes, it would be around $120-140 depending upon the labor rate at the dealership. If you already have the remotes and just need them programmed, it can be done for under $75 as it will only take about half an hour at the dealership.
Ok, try this. Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward all the way just before cranking. Then within 5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide button, found under the dash area in most cases, until the installed LED (the blinking light) in your dash area comes on solid. (Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type. in this case, key on, flip switch in oposite direction, key off.)
This should be valet. This overides the starter kill relay in the alarm harness, and returns the car back to disarmed mode.
The only thing that will work now on your system, is the keyless entry if installed.
