Question about Mazda RX-8

1 Answer

I have just topped up the oil with a different grade of oil, I was assured this would not bea problem as long as the oil fell within the manufacturers guidelines. On next starting the engine both exhausts were billowing white smoke. Have I put too much oil in or is there something more sinister afoot?

Similar problem. I changed the oil and spark plugs when my 1991 Mazda 323 2 door hatchback started billowing smoke until it warmed up. Now, six months later it uses ~1 qt of oil every two weeks and billows smoke until it warms up. Ring job or did the injector cleaner work for the last person.

    thanks,

Hi. What type of oil do I use on my Ford Econovan y.2000. The engine is FE2000

You can use a 10w-40 grade premium oil or synthetic blend oil
.....OR.....
a fully synthetic in 5w-30 grade which is better but more expensive.

When selecting the oils in either grade make sure the one you choose is approved for Ford vehicles by checking the label details. Oil companies manufacture 2 or 3 different formulations of oils in the same grades and the label (usually the back label on the pack) will indicate that the oil is formulated for the engines of specific car manufacturers.

Hi, we have found that differant makes & grades of oil used in engines can make...

Believe it or not, it is normal for these engines to use about a quart every 2000 even when they are essentially new. Note that I said, "use", not "burn". The combination of higher compression and operating temperatures causes oil to pass through the engine. You might notice your tail pipes have a good coating on the inside. I managed to slow the process by converting to Mobil 1 0W40. I get much better performance and I only use a quart every 3500-4000.

Engine Oil how many Litres & Automatic Transmission Oil how many litres....? Which Oil grades to be used...?

not knowing what it is you drive and the engine, most motors hold 4 to 5 litres of oil with a new oil filter. not knowing what your car is and the year the grade of oil can be 5w30 or 10w30, check with what the manufacture requires. you have the same problem with the transmission question. most hold 5 to 7 litres of trans oil, depending on the transmission, and the oil depends on what make of car you drive as GM vehicles use a different type than say a Ford of Chrysler and even different again with the imports.

you need to ask what grade of oil he used,if he used 5/30 then GET IT CHANGED to 10/40 ASAP.TOYOTA worldwide use 10/40 semi synthetic(regardless of your dealers say so)it is supplied by Castrol to toyota worldwide.(in very hot countries STD 20/50 is used.)

What type of oil should i use for my 2005 kia sorento lx

the answer lies within your owners manual, do you have one? it will describe the grade and capacity of oil required-should be 5w30 4.5l pending on which engine. 2.0l engine=4.0l best bet is to start off with 3.5l of oil and check oil level on dipstick and top off accordingly.

Any particular quirks to changing the oil in a 1998 V70? I have 160K on it, is it time to go to a different grade of oil?

No different from any other oil change, just reset the oil life on the dash if it has one which i believe it does. The oil grade is 5W-30 on the turbo engines and 10W-30 on the non turbo engines. If you like you can go with the synthetic oil which will give you up to 25,000 miles or 1 year before service, but you do have to replace the oil filter every 5,000 to 7,000 mile and top off the synthetic oil which in the long run be cheaper then changing the oil and filter every 5,000 miles or six months for turbo and 3,000 to 4 months for non turbo engines. Good luck and hope this helps.

check your oil you are using, getting a $20.00 to $35.00oil change is causing alot of problem in vehicle warm up. many cheap offers use recycled oil, (very bad for motor)

MotorMotor oiloiloil helps lubricate an engine to reduce friction and maintain smooth movement of working parts, thereby increasing performance. There are three main typestypestypes of motormotormotor oiloiloil: conventional, synthetic, and synthetic blend, the last of which combines some of the properties of the first two. Within these typestypestypes of motormotormotor oiloiloil, there are different grades or "weights" that are used for specific purposes.
Most equipment such as cars, boats and even mowers, offer suggestions in the owner's manual regarding which weight is appropriate for the engine. Single grade is the SAE distinction found on a bottle of oiloiloil, such as SAE40. This is a measurement of the oiloiloil's thickness and ability to withstand high temperatures. There is also multi-grade, for example, 10W40. This simply stands for the ability of the oiloiloil to withstand both hot and cold temperatures.

Its a bad rod bearing. I worked at a jeep dealer for a few years and its common. Not that jeep will say there is a problem. However I wil tell you that the engine can last a day or a year makin that noise mine did it for 4 years lol. I put lucas engine oil treatment in it too....Seemed to help. Also know someone who used castrol oil but a thin grade like 5w20. the thinner oil is able to get between the beaing and the rod better thus quiting the noise...
