4 Wheel Drive will not work

I have an electronic switch for the 4 wheel drive. I tried to switch into 4 Hi a few days ago going 40 MPH. The indicator light blinked for almost a minute then went back to a solid light on the 2 WD. Fuse is good. I checked the switch and it is ohmed out properly. How do you tell if it is the 4 WD controller or the individual solenoids? No cliking or activation sounds of any kind. (Truck is a 1999 but the last of the 1998 body style)

Take the switch out of the dash and around one of the pin points is cracked on the electronic board so just find the point that is craked put a dab of solder on it and it will be as good as new

You need to get a new switch. The soldered contacts in the switch get bad. The continuity comes and goes. 1999 models are the worst. 5 minute job or less.

I had the same issue with my 99 sierra push button 4x4..to check the controller motor you can take it out of the side of the transfer case and using a 12v source check it on your own to see if that is what it is. You can also use an ohm meter on the conrtoller. If that checks out..try the Transfercase shift control modual. It really shouldnt matter what speed you are going for 4x4 high....Try to keep it under 80 though

Will it shift in 4x4 when in park? I think you have to be going less than 10 mph to shift in 4x4.

I HAVE A 2002, 4-WHEEL DRIVE, TOYOTA TUNDRA PICK-UP TRUCK. IT HAS A 4-WHEEL DRIVE PROBLEM. RECENTLY I USED THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE, IN HI-GEAR. IT PERFORMED GREAT. WHEN I DEPRESSED TO BUTTON ON THE DASH TO...

I was researching the recalls for the 2002 tundra and havent found any recall pertaining to the 4whl drive. Sometimes when people have their 4wheel drive locked in and drive on pavement for any length of time, whether it be just a couple of feet or a couple of miles, over time it creates a binding of the gears in your transfer case. Once the bind is so great, the engaging and disengaging starts malfunctioning and leads to bigger problems overall. I could be wrong about this being the problem that you have but I think its something to look into. It wouldnt hurt to put your vehicle up off all fours and release the bind if any by running through the gears while in 2 and rour wheel drive while all four tires can move freely and release. See if that works for you. Check your gear oil front , center and rear and use much caution when attempting this suggestion. Also refer to your owners manual troubleshooting section for other possibilities. Merry Christmas. By the way, the electrical switch should be covered in the troubleshooting section also.

HOW DO I PUT A 1998 GMC JIMMY IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE?, DO I HAVE BE IN "PARK" OR CAN I CHANGE IT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE WHILE IM DRIVING?

You should be able to put in 4x4 while in drive less than 35mph. Mine had a switch to turn to engage or dis-engage.

4 wheel drive will not engage (1995 S10 Blazer)

I had this same problem a few years ago. In my case I didn't use the 4 Wheel Drive very often and the tranfer would hang in 2 Wheel. I fixed mine by tapping on the transfer case with a hammer while my wife switched back and forth from 2 Wheel to 4 Wheel.

Recommended mph in 4 wheel drive

50 MPH in 4WD don't exceed you ll burn the transfer case clutches. (Safely stay at 40, why chance it.)

Low 4WD 25 MPH is the max, I recommend no more that 15MPH

Burnt clutches in transferr case 1200 job at the dealer, includes new clutch pack and fluid and 3 days of work, one or two days if you are lucky depending on their work load. (Read your manual)
