About two weeks about my slx died on me. The power in the car went out and I was unable to start the vehicle. Since I have changed the battery and the alternator twice and it is still dying. I have taken it to the dealership and they recommended the second replacement of the alternator and I replaced the battery twice with two brand new batteries from Kragen. I want to know what could be causing the alternator not to work and/or draining the battery. FYI: the battery recharges and I am able to drive until it dies out again with out problem.

The ecm light comes on for a reason, and it is hard to work out the problem, until you find out what codes the computer is registering....i would suggest that you take vehicle to a local mechanic and get him to read the codes....that would give you and us an easier way to find out whats happening.......
if your battery died while driving and the car cut off while your driving,, your problem is from your alternator!!!,, on a normal working car, you can start, remove ther battery terminals and the car would still run cause the alternator will be powering the car. In your case the alternator isnt working and the car was working on battery power therefore when the battery went dead the car cut off.. Your alternator need \s to be charging between 13.5 and 14.2 volts.. as little as 10 volts will keep the vehicle running.. I'd suggest you have the alternator replaced.
you are having a problem with your alternator. the battery has a main purpose to start the vehicle, keep computer memory, and give power to electrical components when the key is in the on position. the alternator charges the battery and gives power to electrical components when the vehicle is running. now when you hit the brakes there was an extra load added to the alternator and if the car died then the alternator is running very weak and needs to be relace.
Sounds like a possible fuel pump problem...When they begin to go bad they will overheat and lock up, then work fine for a while and do the same thing again. By changing the filter you lowered the flow resistance and allowed the pump to work a bit easier but still being bad, it did the same thing again. There are other things that can do this as well, but pump is most common.
i would check your ignition system. you would need a meter for this but look for broke or loose connections. if it was a fuel problem i dont think it would just start up after 20 minutes. or you might try your ignition switch. if its shorting or something then ya well it would cut your engine off real quick
