I have a 1997 Golf, I had an electric window runner replaced a while ago, as when opening it, it fell down inside the door, thus hoping this would sort the alarm problem out, it worked for a while 2/3 weeks, then the alarm started going off again, I had changed the battery in the key, after that the car was ok, now after a few days after changing the battery again the same thing has happend. I can use the car thats ok, but a bit embarrassing cos of the alarm everytime I open the car, I was told that I might have to buy another key costing around £400, have you got any other ideas what this problem could be please

Re: alarm sounds when I unlock car
Unlock driver door twice consecutively to deactivate alarm. Now under the hood u will see a mushroom shaped sensor near the coolant bowl, that's the open hood sensor for the alarm. That wire gets frayed over time and falsely triggers the alarm. Fix or replace the wire and or sensor if it is that one causing problems. Just unplug it and u will see if problem goes away, then u know it's that one that's faulty. There is also one sensor in the trunk, but don't remember where on a golf. Should be easy to find and if i remember it has one white wire on it. Could be behind the panel cover on the trunk lid. Disconnect it if u need to or do the same as the one under the hood, meaning fix/ replace as needed. Hope this helps.

that sounds like a fault in the aunty theft alarm thats what it is suposed to do when working correctley if you have the windows down and lock the car the windows and doors lock not suposed to open the windows when you unlock it get the alarm checked hope this helps
just connect the terminals, and wait till the alarm stops(30secs)then UNLOCK/HOLD KEY OVER 30 secs, windows go down.then lock/hold key over, windows go up.then press remote unlock button for 30 secs, you have just reset the alarm system/central locking/window comfort facility.....has to be done EVERY time you disconnect battery........
put key in door lock,unlock/hold key over windows will go down....then lock/hold key over, windows will go up,press and hold unlock button on remote for 30 secs, you have just reset the alarm/immobiliser.
put key in drivers door and hold over (to unlock)for 30 secs, all windows will go down.then lock/hold over for 30secs,windows will go up,then unlock with remote, that will reset alarm/immobiliser,as a first step.....
you have just found this out.it is a standard feature of all vw/audi/seat/skoda cars
unlock/hold key over, the windows will go down
lock/hold key over the windows will go up
then unlock the car with the remote, car reset.
sit in car with engine on,switch off engine(do not open any door)driver can open/close any window(you can even put your hand into window frame and it will rollback, all on its(not for fun)
if windows rollback after you have used button to close them you may have sticky runners/rubbers.
this is not in the hand book, tell all your friends.....only a german car.....
the gas flap is operated with the central locking, stand at rear of car with tailgate open, just inside to the right, under the floormat you will find the central locking pump.but first renew the batteries in the remotes then unlock the car with the key and hold the key over for 30 secs, the windows may go down,
then lock the car with the key and hold over for 30 secs, the windows may go up and the sunroof,if fitted will close, then unlock with remote button held down for 30 secs, this will reset alarm/central locking.
if you need to get to gas flap, pull carpet away in boot behind flap area and pull wire to unlock....
thw window either came off the window slider or the slider bracket, this can be determined by removing the door panel. this could also be cable driven and the cable has disconnected or broke, can also be determined by removing door panel.
First to turn off the alarm you simply put the key into the drivers door and turn it to unlock the door twice, this is the factory setting to turn off activated Volkswagen alarm. As for the power locks they are air activated, in the trunk near the latch there should be a small electric motor that drives a small air pump with air lines running to all your locks. If this electric motor as worn out your locks will not operate, simple fix replace the motor. I'd try a used one first from a scrap yard to make sure but always check to see if there is power to the motor (you will need another person with a test light to perform this job). Let me know if this works. Vdubs 4-ever !
