I have a Mitsubishi Lancer Cedia Year of make 2000. The car cannot move forward but slightly in reverse gear. My mechanic suggest it requires a gearbox replacement. Where can I get a new or good second hand gearbox?

I have same problem with my lancer Ce `1.5 gli auto? Always gear box goes in these cars. I have replaced it 3 times in 5 years. I have had 1 rebuild by all states. That was biggest waste of money. It still clunks after 2 grand spent fixing it!!!

ok sorry. lets do this.. you have what is called a ASC,or ISAC both mean the same Idle senceor control,,,it is a little elect. motor that is next to the throttle body on top of engine that fits in the side of air flow chamber towards the back of the fir careful if you try to remove it mark the screw with fingernail polish in the postion they are now.. this motor has a little shaft and the end looks like a bullit,, varnish from gash builds on it and will not allow the air and fuel to mix right..cause,,surges on accler..jerking engine or like a hard buck,

Im useing old school knowlge ,, I attended colleage,, for ASE master in automotive..but its been 7 years since ive worked on engines..but I still may be able to help you.. let me kno if you tried this or not..

SOURCE: lancer auto gear change

Depending on the version (country of manufacture/intended market region), it may either be:

  • kickdown cable; or
  • throttle-position sensor.
You may want to have your mechanic inspect the kickdown cable if it has got one. This cable is from the throttle-body linkage to the transmission with an an adjuster at one end. Most Japanese cars have the adjuster at the transmission end. The freeplay, slack and backlash has to be adjusted just right. Normally there would be a spring at the end.

Alternately, if it is an
electronically controlled transmission, the throttle-position sensor provides the shifting trigger. You may need to inspect that it is providing good signal to the computer.

Incidentally, common to both may be a vacuum modulator. As the name implies, it takes a sample of the vacuum condition from the manifold and uses that to control the shift characteristics. A leaky vacuum hose would result to poor shifting at low RPM/speed (since vacuum would be low). This might be more to your concern.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Auto gearbox wont shift out of 3

It is most likely the transmission, component causing it would be the valve body, which can be replaced separately, but usually if there is higher mileage on the transmission the clutch plates are also worn and replacing the valve body may not fix the whole issue.
