Question about 1997 Dodge Caravan
I have a 1997 dodge stratus but the transmission in off a 2001 dodge caravan and the filter and transmission fluid has been changed and in the pan there was metal shaveings in it but when i drive the car and come to a sudden stop it doesnt go into gears so i have to turn off the car for about 2 seconds then it goes back into gears do you know what could be the problem ? its been doing this for about 2 weeks now
My caravan accepts gears when starting, but when i try to put in park, it doesnt work?

There is something wrong with the trans. If it looses all gears but works again when cold, it is probably the converter. They fail all the time and generate the metal you speak of

Could be the valve assembly common on caravans

SOURCE: my transmission pan has metal
metal shavings is a good indicator the trany needs rebuilt,( those metal shavings are from drive gears inside of trany)but the only way to know 100% is to take it in. sorry that happened to you....i know that's not the answer you where looking for.
