They're hydraulic self-adjusting lifters, so there's no mechanical adjustment you can make. Try getting a can of seafoam at the parts store. Pour half the can into the oil, drive 30-40 miles, and change the oil and filter. You may just have some crud in there that is causing one to make noise, and seafoam is good at eliminating that.

They are not adjustable. Try some crank case additive like Berrymens chemtool to free them up.

Audi a4 1998 tapping noise only when idles under valve cover

Sounds like a bad valve lifter or a valve out of adjustment. It's probably a bad hydraulic valve lifter. In idle, when the oil pressure is lowest, it is not filling with oil. When the motor revs up, oil pressure rises and fills the faulty lifter.
If you do have mechanical lifters, the valve is probably out of adjustment. If you do car work, pull the valve cover and see if it's adjustable. Of course, you'll need the specs from VW/Audi.
Otherwise, it's probably a shop job.
Sorry.

Having a "clicking" sound coming from engine, or dull "thumping"

could be anything from belt noise to lifter tick to rod knock..lifter tick is under the valve covers..rod knock sounds like hitting the block with a hammer..if its rod knock see what your oil pressure is.. should be around 30 to 45 psi cold..warm will be as low as 15..depending on oil type..most lifters can be adjusted by removing the cover and doing adjusting depending on the vehicle..good luck

How do i adjust valves on a 4.3 vortec tbi motor

The 4.3 liter vortex uses a hydraulic lifter. There is no valve adjustment. If you hear a lifter tick than there is either a bad lifter or something broken in the valve train. Something yo can try for a sticky lifter is add 1/2 a can of seafoam motor tune the oil. Start the engine and let it run until the noise goes away. Then change the oil. If the noise doesn't go away than you have bigger issues. I have yet for the seafoam to not fix a sticky lifter especial in the 4.3 liter which we see quite often.

I have a lifter that it ticking on a 1989 Mazda 323 Se with a 1.6 liter engine . . . Can it be adusted?

The 1.6 has hydraulic non adjustable lifters and that lifter tick has been a thorn in their side ever since the 1.6's inception.
The way to eliminate the noise is of course replace the lifter/lifters use a cam lube on the lifters bottom and let the new lifters soak in an oil can overnight.
Check for bent push rods when you have it opened up, R&R valve cover,R&R rockers R&R pushrods, Remove and Replace the lifters.
