My Renault Laguna is 1.6 1998 model. When I switch air conditioning on, there appears constant clutching and unclutching - every 2 or 3 minutes. Cooling is OK, but I notice speed change of fan on every clutching.
I went to service where I was told that this is engine overload protection which works only on higher revs to assure engine will not lose power on "full throttle", and that this shouldn't make any problem.
But I had two big problems in 1,5 months: belt tensioner bearing failure and than generator bearing failure! Now I don't trust enugh to serviceman comments and I will not have approach to alternatevie repair shop in next month.
Fan speed is normal ,bearings on fan belt and generator is just wear and tear caused by high mileage or constant driving through big puddles and the plastic guard covers are missing

Sounds like the clutch is beginning to slip, which would mean the clutch and possibly associated parts need replacement. Some vehicles have an access plate which can be removed to view the thickness of the clutch material. I have used a boroscope on some models, passing it through either the starter port or the clutch fork port.
hi I would suggest check sensor on exhaust first ,when using the aircon drains power from engine and tries to compensate have a co test done on vehicle to check your fuel to air ratio, might be dirty air filters or worn injectors or plugs
now thats a new one on me normally its the other way around ,so please describe symptoms so far and what if anything you have done and then i can ponder over it and see what i can come up with
Normally when you press the A/C button when the car is running you should hear a noise when the compressors clutch engages after three seconds, if you don't hear the noise, there could be a possibility there is no refrigerated gas pressure in the system, possibly from a leak somewhere, try to find the air-conditioned pipe with black cap screw and I'm screw
I had the same fault on my laguna remove idle air valve and clean with carb cleaner
then lightly oil with light oil like 3in1 DO NOT use WD40 as it goes sticky when the
solvents dry out replace valve and check connections
put 1 size higher fuse in should solve he problem if not you will have to check to see if any wires are touching that sould not be for example on my stereo in my golf the live wire was worn so it was touching the chasis and blowing my stereo fuses
