If you outer door latch is dragging on the striker when you open the door, try this.
I had to adjust the linkage at the rear of the door above the latch. Just pull off that upper nut and the lower screw that points toward the hinge. This allows you to pull off the plastic cover and gain access to the linkage and door outer handle. Pull down the handle and see which link moves. You will have to pop off the tiny metal black clip which holds the adjuster nut to the handle link. Unscrew this adjuster nut and few rotations up and reinstall the matal clip locking the link rod back to the handle. Try your door now. You may need to adjust it more. On my car this worked for a while, then the latch started to drag on the striker again so I bent the rod to get a bit more stroke.

The door latch maybe the problem. That needs to work properly before the lock actuator will function properly.

So I close my car driver side door and it automatically says on the dash board that my door is open?? Any suggestions on what might be wrong. Its a 2011 Ford edge if that helps at all. thanks

Your door ajar system is tied into the door latch mechanism. if the door still appears to close tightly, and the door latch works properly, then you may need to adjust or replace the latch, though ford has listed a cleaning procedure for the latch that involves using a tool to test latch position and manually closing the latch (while door is OPEN) using a screwdriver 10-20x and monitoring to see if the latch consistently shows CLOSED and OPEN when it should.
If pushing the door closed after its already closed causes the lamp to turn off, an adjustment of the latch may help, or cleaning the latch contacts may also help. If the door never shows latched regardless of how hard it is pushed, it may be a defective latch, or a wiring problem (Door wires sometimes break in the door harness between the door and the side of the dashboard when the harness enters the vehicle).

Why won't the driver side manual slider door open?

The rod from the handles to the lock mechanism could have come off or become bent to the point that it won't work the latch anymore. The prior problems were probably just symptoms of the problem you have now. Will have to take the door panel off and manually trip the latch.

2000 ford f 150 supercab back door on drivers side will not open

The cable runs from the latch to the handle, it sounds like the cable broke off one end or fell off,

this truck uses cables instead of metal rods to open the latch, remove the door panel and see if the cable fell off handle area or latch,,
the cable operates the inside door handle and sometimes the outside handle but very rare that it operates the out side handle to open door.

I cannot close driver side door on my 97 jeep grand cherokee, drivers side is in locked position, door will not close

Just a suggestion as I have seen this before--with door open pull up on outside handle and in door there is a curved latch that can be pulled open with a screwdriver---the hook is likely closed and with opening pressure on the outside handle you should be able to snap it open so the door will close properly---often happens if someone snaps it by accident closed (the hook latch).

Diver side door will not open with door handle (outsidedoor )

There is a small clip that holds the outside door handle arm (inside the door) to the latching assembly, so the door panel has to be removed to reattach it. Sometimes the little clip is still attached to the handle arm, sometimes they are in the bottom of the door & sometimes you can't find them at all... Rick
