Shift light replacement

How do you remove the center console to replace the shift light?

I need to replace the shift light also. I pulled out the cup holders and removed two screws, and there are two of those serrated push-pins on each side under the dash, but the console still won't budge. And I can't see a light bulb.

    Thanks for any help.

First, the bulb is a GE 158.
There are two screws near the back of the parking brake cover (one each side). Move the seats forward to remove them.
After removing the parking brake cover (helps to raise the parking brake), there are two screws at the back of the shift console.
Remove those two screws. Pull out the four 'serrated' push pins under the dash area holding the shift console (two each side). Then pull the cup holder up and out.
You should then be able to remove the shift console. One suggestion- if you need to move the shifter out of park, make sure your parking brake is on! There is a shift release you can depress with a small screwdriver under the little button/tab to the right of the shifter. (Can also be reached under the console with your finger after removing the cupholder.)
The bulb holder is on the driver's side. Only one I assume.
Good Luck,
Robert

I have an automatic gear shift console light bulb that needs replacement. It's a 1998 Toyota Corolla. I already removed the two side screws and two compartment bolts to get the two console pieces apart....

That is a very tough bulb to replace. Once you get the center console pieces out of the way there should be a couple of screws or blots that hold down the trim around the gear shift. Remove those and lift gentley. You will barley be able to access the bulb. but it can be done.

Detach the clips (A, B) by pulling the center console box (C) up, and removing it from the center console (D).

  1. Remove the screws (A, B) and clips (C), and remove the center console (D).

  2. Install the console in the reverse order of removal, and note these items

How to remove the center console cover on a 2005 Honda Civic to replace the burned out bulb for the shift indicator light to work.

I don't have the answer for you but you can search the web for information about adjusting the parking brake as that also requires removing the center console. I'm under the impression that interior trim removal type tools may be helpful so as to not ding things up.

Stuck in park wont let it shift by stepping on the brake

i would look at the shift lock solenoid-it is located at the bottom of the shifter inside the center console-once you remove the console push on the brake to see if it is engaging-if not replace it

Center Console Shifting?
You can take apart that console with relative ease to gain access to the light bulb to remove and replace it. Most of the center console snaps-together or is screwed together. Remove the center console glove box by removing the metal screws/nuts. It takes about 15-minutes.
The Light Bulb itself should have markings on the base of the bulb as to what size and type. If not take it with you when you go to the autoparts store.
Also your Owners Manual may have (but I doubt it) what size and type bulb listed.
Let me know if that helped, or if you have addtional questions or information. Feel free to contact me at FixYa.com!

Nissan Sentra shifter lamp replacement

Transmission shift indicator light on center console.
First
make sure the fuse is good.
If the fuse is good then remove the screws holding the center console cover. You will need a long and short phillip screwdriver. Look for screws in the cup holder, under the handbrake handle and where the console runs under the dash. You may have to move seats forward/backward to reach the screws. When you attempt to raise the console cover you will notice you overlook a screws. Remove them also. You may be able to reach the bulb without removing the gear shift handle. DO NOT TOUCH any other electronics you see. The AIRBAG ACTUATOR is located here also. Replace bulb. Test before reassembly. Good Saturday morning project.
