Question about 1998 Honda CR-V
I recently had my thermostate replaced on my 1999 honda crv due to taking 150 mile roadtrips to pa and the gauge was running hot......it did not resolve the problem.....now the gauge fluctuates between mid range and hot......but does not stay in the hot area....for more than a few minutes.....
my mechanic said I need a radiator flush and to to a head gasket repair treatment......just in case my head gaskets might have been effected due to lack of antifreeze in the radiator and the reserve...........will this ease the problem....took it to jiffylube they were not able to do this due to not being able to keep the car on their property for 24 hours...they told me they did not see the radiator fans turn on........another mechanic is saying it might be the radiator switch needs replacing.......of course I am taking it for a diagnostic next week...the car has over 120,000 miles on it
Hi i don't know what mechanic you went to but blown head gasket will cause the engine not to idle/run right. usually when you replace the thermostate you have to then run the car obviously with water in the radiator and crack the little screw where the thermostate is located. this will allow the car to release any trapped air in the lines and you may need to keep topping up the radiator. im not a mechanic but i know alot about cars. i came across this problem in my holden ute. it was running hot and that was why. too much trapped air. easiest way is too crack that screw and remove it. run the car while keeping an eye on the radiator water level you will see if there is air in there it won't squirt water out continuously once it does run continously turn the car off put the screw back in warning it will be quite hot retop te radiatior if need and you should be good too go. it solved the same problem i had. have fun cheers
