Question about 1994 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Horn and speedometer

What would cause the horn and the speedometer to stop working? The horn quit working and then some months later the speedometer stopped working. Could it be a fuse? Does the car even have a fuse box? If so, where is it? The speedometer will sometimes start to work on its on but mostly it doesn't. Could there be a wire loose? Help me, please. I'm a widow and on a limited income. Sometimes I'm sure I get taken advantage of. Thanks.

Thank you for the help. As for the check engine light it is not on. I'll check out the other things you said also. Thank you again.

I would check the fuse first. Yes there is a fuse panel under the drivers side dash. There should be a guide under there with what fuse number is for the horn. The problem with your speedometer sounds like it needs a new speed sensor. Is your check engine light on? These problems could also be caused by faulty wiring or the actual horn itself could be bad. Hope this helps ya.

Unless it is a wiring problem somewhere, then I would guess that the two problems are separate issues and they just happened to both go around the same time. I am still thinking that the horn issue is probably just a fuse. The speed sensor is not as bad as it sounds, and it is actually pretty easy to replace if you know where to look. The speed sensor can be purchased from any honda dealer or chain auto parts store. I would always recommend genuine honda parts, they are a little more expensive but are much more reliable and are always an exact fit. If you would like to change the speed sensor and need help with that, please let me know. You can e-mail me at computergeek2009@hotmail.com. Thanks, and I hope this fixes your problems.

I am no Honda expert, but a similar problem happened to my ex sister in-laws Ford Taurus. The speed odometer would jump around and it had trouble shifting (automatic transmission). After driving it I changed out the speed odometer sensor on the transmission and it's been fine ever since. I changed out the sensor because if the cars computer cannot tell how fast the car is traveling then fail safes in place go into effect and the computer will do it's best to keep the cars rpm's down based on the speed indicator and not let it shift or shift properly either. If it's getting false speeds then it will shut down the motor when the speed gets to high and allow it to run as the speeds fall (jumping speed odometer needle). It effects the transmission shift points also. It will either shift erratically or not shift out of say 2nd gear, so that the cars engine can't get damaged based on what signal the speed sensor is sending the computer.

What would make your horn on a vehicle stop

Hi: Most vehicles have 2 horns, a high tone and a low tone.
Usually you lose one or the other , but not both. Has your vehicle been in deep water? That can cause horns to fail, and Horns do fail, as they have a electrical vibration coil that can sieze up or quit. If you have checked your fuse, and verified that you have 12 volts at the horn electrical plug, the horn has failed. The horn switch in the steering wheel can be bad too.

This is suspect too, if you don't have the voltage at the horns.

Hope you find the problem!

A test light is great for testing all fuses without pulling 1 by one. $5-$10 at autoparts or hardware store, will save you tons of aggravation in the end, and you'll always have it for later use.

2002 Tahoe horn srated blowing for no cause and will not stop.

Hello, although from your brief description of fault May I offer assistance? Not on a Chevrolet but a Volvo 740, the Button on the steering wheel for the horn are Copper semi circular type and sprung loaded. Me being ham fisted with annoyance pushed the button too hard, it worked ok at the time of use but a few minutes later World WAR 3! had to pull plug on horns themselves to silence them.
So FixYa resolution? Check Horn button itself Cuz it'll be stuck!
