    3.8L got a mult missfire.

  • Anonymous May 01, 2009

Code was a multiple misfire. Sparkplugs where changed including the valve cover seals as the plug gullies were full to the top of the coil pack seals. Once warm, engine misses intermittently at idle and under load. Cam position sensors seems okay however there is another sensor slightly below that one that has oil coming from it. Please advise the most probable cause for random cylinder misfire with a vehicle that has 117,000 miles on it.

Look at fuel trim on a professional scanner

You still have the same codes for the same cylinder
misfires,IF the codes are correct

The misfires could come from valve issues, the valves themselves
or the variable cam actuators if that applies,or from fuel issues, but
not as likely on all three cyl on same bank

You need to do a cylinder leak down test on all cylinders--to eliminate mechanical issues

Then a cylinder contribution test electrically with scope software

Then scope the timing events, the cam advance events, the crank
position, all layered on the same screen & see if they line
up where they belong.

If the cams are not the issue, then your left with a serious vacuum
leak in the intake on one bank.

What I'm saying, is you have one bank with misfires apparently
not now from the ignition since the coils were replaced

Check engine light flashing runs rough not firing on all cylinder2000 lincoln navigator with large triton engine Hooked up diagnnostic and it said 1. system too lean bank #2 2. Unable to bleed up fuel tank...

you may try your rotor button and distributor cap. and spark plug wires. try your map sensor also they tend to cause a lot of misfiring if they go bad.hope this helps.

Hi all, my 99 sub.350,300k,missfire #2

Have you checked the distr cap for cracks??

If plug is oily looking on brand new plug I would suspect worn rings, which would also explain the high PSI. (Motor job in the wind) Especially for 300K.
