Camry SEI MODEL 1993

Hi there, recently i found that i had a problem...while driving, but only SOMETIMES,not all the time...that the car will almost feel as if i cannot get power...almost the feel as if the spark plugs are dirty, but not backfiring at all...so i had it serviced, and thought the problem would be solved.but now it is still there....especially if i go uphill...i cannot get speed, feels as though it struggles...someone told me it could be dirt in the air filter or the cables to the plugs might need replacing....can you help me?tks..janine

HI THERE,tks for the speedy reply...yes its an automatic...never have any problems with the car...it was a normal oil change, spark plugs changed, oil filter and air filter....no the check engine light is not on...everything else is normal...
but as i say....this is not a problom which happens all the time..yesterday had no problem while driving..but today...it was fine..and all of a sudden..its started..its difficult to explain ...but its almost as if the car is pulling with difficulty and slows..cant get speed up to 60...and this happened while going up a small hill....then it was fine again...almost as if some dirt is stuck somewhere and then it frees....and the car drives ok....tks..so much....j

    Hi

I would just like to ask 1 more question..

When you say "ignition wires" is this the same as the "plug leads"? if not, how do i go about replacing the ignition wires? I was also told to clean the air-flow meter. is that correct?

    Thank you

Thank you for allowing me to assist you. I will be glad to help.

But, I need a few questions answered, first.

When you said that you had it "serviced", exactly what was done?

Is the "Check Engine" light on?

    Automatic or 5 speed?

I, myself, also drive a 93 Camry V6. These are pretty good cars.

Get the above info back to me, we'll get you fixed up.

The first thing that I would do would be to have the throttle body/throttle valve cleaned, it's probably dirty. The second thing that I would do would be have an induction cleaning done. Third, I would replace the ignition wires (if they are over 3 years old) distributor cap, rotor & coil, and finally, have the auto trans power flushed. These are maintenance items that many people overlook. At the very least, change the ignition wires, cap & rotor, and make SURE that you have genuine Toyota plugs in your engine. Non-Toyota plugs cause issues at times. I'm pretty sure that this will fix you up.

Ignition wires/plug leads; all the same; What I am talking about are the black wires going from the dist cap to the spark plugs. Over time, they age, and the volts just do not go thru them like they used to, and, again, ovet time, the wires can develop cracks, and the spark "leaks" out, and does ot go thru the spark plug properly.

Glad to be of assistance; pleae remember to rate my helpfulness.

How can i make my 1996 toyota camry 2.2l sei auto

8 km per litre, or 12.5 litres/100km is certainly a bit heavy for that model, but not disastrously so, as in city driving it was rated at 10 L/100 km when new by Govt agencies where I am in Aust.

So the usual suspects in an older car are

- dirty air filter
- low tire pressures
- spark plugs worn or fouled
- ignition timing incorrect
- fuel pressure too high
- fuel injectors worn
- evap canister filter blocked
- emissions system faulty (EGR valve or Vacuum Switching Valve)

Where is fuse for fuel pump 1993 camry

There is not a special one, it is supplied through the 30A AM2 fuse and the EFI main relay. Sometimes this relay sticks. Try pulling it out and tapping it gently, then replacing it. See here, p279

Toyota Camry 1993 vibration during driving position

So you're saying it starts to shake as soon as you put it in gear? If so, you probably have a dead spark plug or plug wire, or disconnected plug wire. It could be something more serious. Head gasket, cam shaft, timing chain. Try the plugs and wires first, and go from there.
