2005 Honda Civic EX Transmission faultering

My 2005 Honda Civic has developed what I believe is a fault in the transmission. It wines and grunts when changing and the transmission light is on on the dash board. What can I ask the mechanic to do. I am in a third world country and the mechanic does not know what to do.

I am sorry to bum you guys out, but this usually means the piston in the torque converter is bad. The converter needs to be replaced along with a transmission flush.
