Question about 1997 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

Starter--1997 Dodge Caravan-3.0

When I turn the key it clicks. Sometimes I can keep turning the key and it'll start, but this isn't working now.

I've been told the starter is bad.

Where is the starter located? How involved is it to take it off and then get it back on?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

I would take your car to wal mart or auto zone and have battery tested 1st. Bad batteries can cause this too. This test is free, if your battery is good then you can remove your starter. Its usually on the bottom side of engine and usually has 2 bolts with wires that run from battery. You can follow big red wire from + battery terminal to starter. You can also have your starters tested for free at auto zone once removed.

good luck.

The 10 amp fuse that goes to the turn signals and heater fan keeps blowing on my 1997 dodge caravan

That fuse circuit goes hot with the key on, shouldn't have voltage before you turn the key on. The fuse circuit sends voltage to several circuits, one of which is the front blower relay. Unplug the relay, see if fuse still blows? If you need to enlarge diagram, sometimes you can click on your highlited post, on that page you may be able to enlarge diagram.

1997 dodge caravan, full battery, turn key and it clicks, door chime buzzes, wont start. what should i look at?

If it clicks it could be a bad solenoid in the starter Also check for dirty or loose battery cables on both ends . they will do that as well.
You could try and tap the starter lightly with a hammer. while turning the key because it could be stuck but that's not likely. but has happened before.

My 1997 dodge caravan will start then it will die when this happens none of the gages work, also when i am driving it the gages will quit working help this has left me sitting with the kids in the car

The instrument cluster needs to be replaced. However, it'll have to be removed to determine the color of the plug in the back. 1997 is usually red. If you hit the dash above the instrument cluster (with the key in the run position) you'll see the gauges come on (sometimes it has to be hit a few times) and it'll get you where you have to go. I only suggest hitting it a a diagnostic technique of to get you back home. I hope I've helped. You can check my testimonials if this seems somewhat unorthodox. I'll admit that it is, but it works. The instrument cluster contacts most likely have small cracks in them. Do the lights on the temperature controls flash also? Thanks for using Fixya. I am having trouble starting my 1997 Dodge Caravan. It keeps rolling over, but takes about two minutes to actually start.

try turning key on and off 2or 3 times then see if it starts right up. if it is there is a check valve in the fuel pump. it cant be replaced. you would have to replace the whole sending unit. costs about $600.00

2000 dodge caravan will start and most of the time will and nothing happens at all when i turn the key . i try 3 or 4 times an it will start this happens about once a week

You need to clean your battery connections & the starter cable connections. If this doesn't solve the problem, you may have to change the starter or the red starter cable. Good luck!

2002 Dodge Grand Caravan does not start

could be the starter but could also be a relay that is not working properly. the relays are under the hood. you would have to have someone under the hood and someone turning the key at the same time to see if the relay is working. if it works every time you turn the key then its probably the starter.

My son is trying to fix my 1993 dodge Caravan. When we try to start it it just clicks but then sometimes it will start. What is the problem and where on the engine is this located?

If it starts when you turn the key several times most likely the starter is going out. Usually you'll get just a click when turn key on 1st or 2nd try but after trying it 3-4-5 times and it suddenly engages then the starter is the most likley culprit.
This is located on the front side of the engine toward the radiator in most cases. You did not mention which engine it had.
