Ac pump noisy, mech says bad bearing, but can't get part

My mechanic says that the noise I hear from the front end of my 03 Trailblazer is the ac pump, but that his suppliers can't get just the bearing, so he would need to replace the whole pump. $1000.00 plus. Does anyone know of a part number, or if it is available? The ac works well now.

    1- Is it available?
    2- Part #, or description?

  • bgear4u Oct 16, 2008

    Looking for the bearing only.
I live in Canada, so giving me US websites doesn't help. Looking for the GM part number.

Hi,

I am inclined to think that the bearing would not be available from GM. To my knowledge A/C compressors are manufactured and supplied by a third party. For a 2003 TrailBlazer, possibly 4-Seasons, APG, Delco or HRM. Having said this, then what GM would recognize would be the entire compressor assembly and not the bearing alone.

Alternately, it would be possible to disassemble the compressor and remove the bearings. Bearing number would be stenciled on one side and replacement could be purchased from:

Alternately, you could try a refurbished/used compressor as bearing donor.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi, Normally manufacturers do not sell such specific items.
and its not worth spending whole lot of money to buy a new AC pump.
So, you can get a used/ salvaged ac pump, remove the bearing from it and replace in yours...

Hi bg,

I found your pump at various auto outlets at an average of $478.00. If you have some one you know that is mechanical they may install for free of 100 bucks or so. I personally would only charge that amount. Its not a difficult install if you know your way around the engine bay. This is one site that has your pump in stock.

Howling noise front end 2006 Chevy trailblazer what could it be

If the noise changes with engine rpm, possible bearing from one of the drive accessories. Idler pulley..tensioner pulley.. alternator bearing.. ac compressor bearing.. water pump bearing etc. If you remove the belt and spin all the pulleys by hand, usually a defective one will be heard/felt

I can hear the diff sound when we shift the gear to drive and reverse. I just changed the diff but still can hear the same sound

find a mech with an electronic stethoscope.
$50 tool/
we can find any noise. source with this
except U-joints. on main drive shafts.

find a pro mech, they all know this.
Id put in new U-joints if , all my electronic hear tests pass/
see that logic?
i check axle ends, and pinion front bearing.
and engine , and tranny front center and rear.
all normal.> then U-joints are bad.

most guys just put them in , to start. can save time.
warning, all tests here are dangerous. that is why use
my remote monitoring stethoscope with zero risk .
person 1 drives, i rind shot gun and with head phones on
i stop and move my microphone clamps
takes about 30min to 1hr to finish a test.
my last catch, was a bad right axle bearing, RR.
i caught it early.
sounds can telegraph, so lots or listen points, prove who is the offender.

Loud squeaking.

To me, I think I am hearing a dry bearing.
However, an old worn out belt can make the same sound!
You could take off the belt and try spinning the pulleys to hear which is noisy, or you could use a mechanic's stethoscope to find out.
A mechanic's stethoscope is a really long screwdriver or metal rod about 2 or 3 feet long that they put on different parts (put the handle end to your ear) to hear the noise each part is making.
If your belt is good, try the alternator bearings.
There is also an idler pulley or maybe 2 that could be noisy.
Be blessed.

Loud thudding noise coming from front left side of 2004 Chevy Trailblazer - what could be causing this ?

Check your stablizer end links, these can get noisy when they go bad. Replace with Moogs which are greasable, unlike the stock ones.

Mechanic did a timing belt with water pump and front cam and crank seals and ps pump . when I picked it up i thought it was noisy. my wife said it had a noise after 1st time she drove it. What may have...

To do the camshaft seal, he had to take the cam out or at least loosen the rockers. He probably didn't adjust the rockers properly after reinstalling the cam.

BEARING NOISE IN FRONT END RT SIDE DODGE SUV DORANGO COULD IT BE CV JOINTS OR BEARING IN FRONT HUMS

Most likely it is the RH front wheel bearings. CV Joints don't usually make any noise until you turn a rather sharp corner. I would advise you to replace the bearings and seals in both front wheels if the bearings are in fact noisy. Jack up the front and spin each wheel, you'll soon hear the sound of rumbling bearings.

I HEAR A LOUD WHINNING NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD

Yes there is a bearing in the AC clutch assembly, and the bearing can be changed with out swapping out for a whole new AC compressor unit or even taking the unit out.
The other thing to you may want to check is the Serpentine belt tensioner. The tensioner then to break apart and or when the clutch activate put's more pressure on the system and the idler pully bearing could alsy be the problem.
Spray some water on the fan belt whale the engine is running and see if the noise goes away and comes back as the water dry's. If the noise goes away then it's just a worn belt and need to be changed or you may want to do the quick fix and buy Fan belt dressing.
Good luck and hope this helps

03 Trailblazer Front End Noise/Vibration

I had similar problem with my 03 trailblazer. It had a low dull hum in the front end with a little vibration being felt in gas pedal. Noise increased over a couple weeks and was louder turning to the left and quiter turning to right. A GM mechanic friend of mine replaced the front right hub and took care of the problem. Hub was about $160 at Autozone.

Noisy rear bearing?

Is isnt the rear end it would be very bad shaking and wouldnt last long because it would throw a bearing out. So its most likly the wheel bearing and you can just take it to a local automotive shop.
