Check your exhaust valv and as for not being able to connect to OBD system, check all of your fuses.

How do i know if the motor is primed/ready for testing?


For OBD 2 there are thing's the cars computer check's for emissions , there called monitors . When these monitors run an set the vehicle will be ready to pass an emission test . Failing emissions testing due to high NOX (oxides of nitrogen)


I have seen several people posting emissions failures due to high NOX (oxides of nitrogen). Nox is created when the engine's internal combustion temperature gets to high.

Two reasons this can occur is improper coolant levels and a malfunctioning egr system. The egr system injects exhaust gas from the exhaust and uses it to line the cylinder walls.This in turn reduces the combustion chamber size and internal combustion temperatures. Ultimately this reduces the amount of NOX created. These systems functioning properly can be the difference in passing or failing your emissions testing because of high NOX ppm.

Fix a system monitors" not ready" reading during emmissions test


Hi Paul@ FIREFOX,
The most common cause is the engine is not upto working temp.failing this you will need to use an O.B.D 2 meter to pin point fault this will flag up a fault code it works out alot cheaper than changing parts to cure the fault hope this helps....

Lighter fuse


Yes.
The OBD connector for the scanner is powered by the same circuit as the cig lighter. If the fuse is blown, the testing facility can not access the computer on the car.

that is the code for the catalytic convertor. it is either bad or not working at optimal levels. In most cases this in not such a big deal unless you live in a state that does emission testing buy pug in and not tail pipe emissions. Most states now use a quick OBD II plug-in test to check emissions compliance on 1996 and newer vehicles. The plug-in test is faster, easier and cheaper to do than a loaded mode tailpipe emissions test on a road simulator or dynamo-meter. The rules in most states say to pass the OBD II plug-in test, the vehicle (1) must have a fully-functional OBD II system (Check Engine lamp works and the diagnostic connector communicated with the engine computer), that the Check Engine light must be off and that there are no current codes in the computer's memory. If this is the case than you're going to have to replace the converter.

What does "not ready" mean?

A service technician will turn off the dashboard "check engine" light after most repairs. This resets the vehicle's emission system components to "not ready". The status remains "not ready" until the vehicle's computer has had adequate time to review the repaired component. This happens after the vehicle is driven for a period of time established by the manufacturer.

If the vehicle's emissions system status is "not ready" when it is presented at the E-Check station during the initial test cycle, a tailpipe emissions test may be conducted. If the vehicle is transferred to another test type, the vehicle must remain on the different test track until the vehicle passes the emissions test or receives a waiver. For example, if the vehicle undergoes an OBD II test and fails, it cannot be downgraded to a tailpipe test on a re-test; the vehicle must pass the OBD II test.

For initial and subsequent tests, if a dashboard light is on when the vehicle is presented at the E-Check station, the vehicle will fail the test.


How can the vehicle status be made ready?

When a vehicle is driven through its normal drive cycle, the computer reviews the emission control
system and if the vehicle was properly repaired, the system resets itself to ready. A normal drive
cycle includes operation at both cruising speeds and in stop-and-go traffic for up to a couple
weeks. This process should be followed before bringing the vehicle in to be tested.

Did not pass state inspection (vehicle)


First the fault codes,
U110C is No Fuel Level Bus Message
U0155 is No Cluster Bus Message.
Unfortunatly you have to be able to communicate with the instrument cluster with your scanner to diagnoise and I do not think an aftermarket scanner can do this.

2000 Saturn SL2 fails smog due to failure of OBD Self test


Some vehicles require very specific drive cycles (called "drive traces" if you perform them on a road simulator or dyno) to activate certain self-checks like the catalyst and EVAP monitors. As a general rule, doing some stop-and-go driving around town at speeds up to about 30 mph followed by five to seven minutes of steady 55 mph highway speed driving will usually set most or all of the monitors. Consequently, if you're checking an OBD II system and discover that one or more of the monitors have not run, it may be necessary to test drive the vehicle to set the remaining monitors.

You should talk to a good emission tec, if this is not throwing a code, it is hard to say if that one of the components could be bad. O2,pump,convert, HeO2, every part of the emission system.

With a 1000 miles, and doing what is says above just before the test, and ending driving at the test
should be plenty. If it is not, you will have to have each emission part checked, or when the computer
is plugged in it might show a code that did not trip dash light.

Emissions test


Most of the Smog testers need to use the speedometer for testing since they have to test your vehicle emissions at 15mpg, 25 mph, etc. So you will likely need to get that fixed before your testing
