Question about 1992 Pontiac Grand Am

1992 Grand am that sputters

I have a 92 grand am that sputters at about 35 when you accelerate and if you slow down it will sputter when you get back on the gas hard. Its driving me nuts and i replaced the spark plugs and it stopped for a while and now it has started again  but i dont want to waste the money on coils if it is not them. or what are some of the other problems that it could be? Injectors?

I'll try that first solution but i was wondering would it have an effect because i have the 2.3 quad 4 ohc and the coils are built into the plastic cover that is over the spark plugs and will the sparks show up through that or will i have to take that off? The check enginge light is on but i work at a shop and could have it looked at there. But can i have the whole system reset or will it mess up anything else?

Well if the problem got better after you changed the spark plugs and you have some reason to think its the coils you can easily check. When it's dark out or in a dark garage open the hood and use a spray bottle with plain water in it and 'mist' the coil and/or wires alittle bit. Make sure your a couple of feet away from where you are spraying too. If the coils or wires are shorting to anything you will see alittle lightning storm. It's alittle spooky watching it, if it happens, but it will let you know what's shorting. Rember to turn off the car before you go poking around because you could get a jolt.
As for anything else, theres several other things that can cause the problem your having. Try what I said first. And look around everywhere you were working when you changed the plugs there could be a loose connection somewhere maybe at an injector or sensor. Also is the check engine light on? You can goto an Autozone or equivilant place and have the codes read for free. Sometimes there abit vague but it gives you somewhere to start.
Let me know what you find out. Or if that's not the problem at all.

Car has new plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor, also water pump. Sputters badly when you take off, continues to sputter until higher speed is reached. Also surges occassionally when idling. Fuel pressure...

to me it sounds like your just about to put water down your exhaust mate or your rings are binding up. I recon dump your oil and run diesel oil from now on and reset your timing belt before those new spark plugs end up in your lap.

1995 Jeep grand cherokee is missing while running. When it is under a heavy load (driving fast) it runs fine. When idleing and slow driving it spits and sputters.

I have the same problem on my 95 grand cherokee laredo. Sometimes it starts out fine and after about 10 miles it starts spitting and sputtering. Then after a while it seems to clean out and run fine again for a little while. Then other times it starts out spitting and sputtering at the begining. I changed the fuel filter and that was not it. It is a 4.0L 6cyc. Any Ideas?

Thanks,

92 max
I own a 92 max 370 kms runs good but one day just cuts out while doing about 30 km, I pull over i can start it no problem but when I touch the pedal to accelerate the car stalls out.

It got worse to the point of sputtering on the highway , sometimes i could keep it alive by working the pedal but others would slow down and stall out.

I have changed the fuel filter and plugs seemed to make it a bit better but still stalling. I ran it in my driveway for 10 mins on idle then it stalls out

Is this the fuel pump??
