I dont want to replace the airbag system, just the steering wheel. The old one is blown open and looks bad, its basically just for looks.

(fyi you don't need airbags for a car to pass a safety)

I was going over some unsolved problems and found yours. If you still need the procedure to replace the wheel, comment me back or better yet Click on my name, when my profile comes up, click the Askme button. This will send me a message directly.

There are some specialty tools needed, but they are inexpensive. I can walk you through it no problem

You need to leave airbag replacement to an authorized shop. There are many sensors that need to be checked or replaced before putting in an airbag. If you skip these steps the airbag could deploy injuring you.

Have to agree 100% with emtbjb , Cosmetic repairs are not ethical. Would you be happy driving a pre owned train wreck ? Air bags are fundamental to passanger and driver safety. You would (i'm sure) not let any family member operate the said vehicle and sleep nights.

Get replacement airbag, and there is a electrical connector in the steering wheel, unplug old bag and plug new bag in. PLEASE disable the airbag system before doing this or new bag can deploy!
Then you should be able to mount bag and then rearm system

I got into an accident and my airbag deployed can I replace it with an ordinary steering rack?

Generally, the airbag module can be replaced. It is highly recommended that a dealer service dept perform this service! You normally don't have to replace the whole steering wheel or system.

2005 Cavalier horn does not work. Stearing wheel airbag missing?

no connection between air bag and horn operation
the air bag is in a section but that whole section presses to activate the horn
can be on either side bottom or top will work the horn
probably right that there is no air bag
you will have to remove the wheel to check the horn contact under the center bit
check for a horn relay operation first

I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage that was in an accident and suffered minor front end damage. Now the ignition key will not return to the off position and therefore the steering wheel won't lock and I...

Did the airbag deploy? I had the same issue with my 1995 Chrysler when it was struck head-on and the airbags deployed. I think it is a feature to make sure that repairs are made correctly.

If you had it repaired, take it back to the repair shop.

How can I remove the driver's side deployed airbag on my 2005 saturn Ion 3?

The Airbag is held to the steering wheel by screws at the back of the steering wheel, remove them and disconnect the electrical connector to the Airbag. Also whenever an Airbag is deployed the Airbag control module must be replaced, they are a one deployment part and then thrown away.

You may need to call several salavage yards, but there should be one out there that will sell you one without the air bag. If your steering wheel isn't damaged, you might be able to disconect the air bag from the steering wheel.

I got into accident, airbags deployed, dont want new airbags, but front blinkers dont work, how do i fix?

If this was a reportable accident, your insurance company should take care of the air bag and consequencial damages. Bypassing safety devices as such creates greater risk of severe injury because the rest of the vehicle is designed with all systems functional. Ck w/ insurance co.
